I want to give 20 cha to my half-orc. Unfortunately the save editor (1.8) goes unresponsive after I type the name of my character in it. This happens on both Windows 7 and Linux+Wine emulating Windows XP. I'm not afraid to hex edit, but I don't know what exactly I should edit and, while I've seen that old hex guide, it seems the GOG version uses a different savegame format since I couldn't find the string that identifies a female player character anywhere.

The problem is that no matter how many character points I have, I can't add them to CHA past 18 as a half-orc. Mme Toussaude's blessing got me at 19, but I need 1 more for the talk end and to be able to have 6 people in my party.

hmm, another idea would be modding my background (Nietzche Poster Child) to give me 1 extra charisma. Any idea how to do that?
An easier option would be to get the jewel of hebe (cha +1 necklace) from the chest by the panarii priest in the panarii temple of Tarant. It's near the 'commercial district' in subway terminology if I remember right.

But yes I know how to add charisma to your background.

Download dbmaker, figure out how to use it to unzip the .dat arcanum files. Edit the effect.mes from one of the .dats and place it in your arcanum's data folder (inside the proper sub folder). All .mes files can be edited using notepad.
I dunno why I thought the Jewel of Hebe was magical. Seems to be neutral. It should, indeed, solve my problem. Also thanks for the modding guide, that should help if I decide to continue with the Thieves Guild quests.
Its effect is actually a blessing, so it doesn't care who you are, you just get the bonuses.
