I made the mistake of starting this game up last night just for the fun of it (been years since I played it) and of course, HUGE MISTAKE, ended up watching the sun crawling through the window again. Dammit.

And that was just playing around (basically just picking skills/attributes at whim and focusing on gameplay) and got to about Level 7 just messing around and decided, okay, I'm hooked, I need to play this again.

So I'm writing down all of the options to put character points into, and am coming up with nearly 300 and realized, WAIT, aren't we limited to something like 54 or 64?? Isn't that IT?

I loved this game but didn't remember it being THAT limiting. I can't remember the character I played through last time, but I'm having a hard time planning out a character with only 54 or 64 points to spend.

Is that really it or am I misremembering again?
Without the level cap remover patch you can only reach level 50, which equals to 64 character points to spend in total:

- 5 at the character generation (Level 1);
- 1 for every level starting from 2, except...
- 2 for every fifth level (5, 10, etc.).

Okay, thank you, so I guess it is more limiting than I remember. Man, hard to limit oneself to 64. Really hard.

Thank you very much for the reply. I'm sorry I forgot to mark this as a question so I could give you 5 rep points, my bad. I did plus 1 you though. Thanks again.

ADDED: LOL, soooo, I just went through and scratched out a whole bunch of stuff I had picked..... and I'm still at 100!!!! LOL, I'm gonna have a hard time getting that down to 64.

Anyone know if there are "other" ways of permanently increasing some things without spending points on them?? Maybe that would save me some points. I don't seem to remember that in this game, especially if one plays a tech character. I mean I do seem to remember some magical rings/pendants that provide a boost, but don't they have trouble working if you're more of a techie character? Gosh it's been so long since I played this, at least 10 years IIRC. I wonder how I limited myself the first time?

Blessings. I'm not getting into the altar sidequest, as it is quite complex, but you can get a permanent +1 CH from one quest in Tarant, depending on how you do it. (There's also a quest later on that gives +1 BE, but who needs Beauty anyway?)

Magickal equipment will lose power if used by a techie, possibly to the point of its bonus being negated entirely.

Some stat-boosting equipment for techies:

Charged Ring (+2 DX, second tier of the Electrical discipline) - the most overpowered piece of tech in the game, considering the effects of Dexterity. Needs some tech aptitude (14, I think) to give the full bonus.

Jewel of Hebe (+2 BE, +1 CH) - aptitude-neutral necklace that you can steal in Tarant.

Ring of Virility (+2 CN) - can be stolen in Tarant, aptitude-neutral.

Machined Platemail - craftable (last tier of Smithy required), +1-3 ST, depending on the aptitude.

Thanks for all of your help. I'm not understanding why this is the most overpowered piece of tech though. If one spends two points in the electrical discipline and gets a +2 DX ring from it it's the same as if they just spent two points in dexterity isn't it? Or can you use two of the same ring and thus get a +4 DX for only two points spent???? LOL, I didn't even think of that until I was typing, I guess that's what you were talking about.

Yep. Plus, the rings are very cheap to craft, and you can equip your followers as well, for a speed bonus - though this should be done with care (or their levelling schemes can get messed up a bit). Most of them will eventually grow out of needing any stat boosts, however.

If you want more points I'd sacrifice Beauty and Charisma. Between blessings and the Jewel of Hebe, it's extremely easy to raise them up to functional levels without putting points into them at all - too easy, in fact.

That's actually one of my complaints about the game. I made a Troll Offspring character hoping to meet hatred and hostility everywhere I went, and even to be hunted as the background describes, but it just doesn't happen. It's so easy to raise reaction stats that that character had no problem at all.

I did discover that, by avoiding all blessings and reaction modifying equipment, it's possible for your character to be so hideous that the Tarant guards attack him on sight. That's kind of neat.

Maybe I shouldn't mention this, but there is a workaround: the so-called Level 127 hack is a level cap remover. There should be a link to it in the pinned mods and patches thread. (You'll never actually make it all the way to level 127, however; there just aren't enough quests to do and monsters to kill in the game.)

I'll Have to look into that. All the times I've played this never thought of removing the level cap.
