First off I have installed all of Drog's fan patches. Second when I start a new game and after I am done talking to virgil, I initiate combat with a nearby wolf and out of no where whatever weapon I have equipped disappears from my hand, both graphically and from my inventory, whats more if I then do a pickpocket on virgil , the weapon is always suddenly in his inventory.
I think it is either a bug or a glitch, does anyone else have this problem?

One of the side effects of critical misses in the game is the chance to drop your equipped weapon. Followers will randomly pick items up off the ground (I haven't figured out what triggers them to do so, but it seems totally random to me) - that would be why you find the item in their inventory.
Note: You don't have to pickpocket followers, just talk to them and ask to trade - you can access their inventory and equipped items that way.

carlosjuero is correct I believe . . . also you can right-click the followers icon and select Inventory.

Note that NPCs also have a tendency to pick up anything lying freely about (not in a container like a waste bin) so be careful about dropping important or expensive items on the ground :)
