My character is currently level 11. He is a half-orc, who has the sheltered childhood background.

He has the following stats.

4 st

9 cn

9 dx

7 in be ( got one extra point because I finished the quest chain in Stillwater with the idle of beauty.)

10 in

10 wp

9 pe ( I have -1 due to my armor)

9 ch

one point in melee

one in gambling

two in haggle (apprentice)

two in persuassion (apprentice

two points in firearms (apprentice)

one point in pick lock (apprentice)

one point in disarm trap (apprentice)

Can I make my character good at fighting somehow?

Go level up and by fighting some lower level enemies (the wilderness between Shrouded Hills and Tarant, or between Shrounded Hills and Dernholm). Also do all the quests you can in Tarant and Ashbury. You'll gain tons of levels.

I assume you're in Stillwater because the main quest sent you there, and you didn't just find it? Because if so that is crazy and I have no idea how you are only level 11. But maybe you just found it: that is fine. But a bunch of the stuff in that area is higher level.

Also, so I guess I suggest you put some more points in Firearms and work on getting a good gun (though you seem to have very low strength (I assume that is what you meant by "me" in the original list), so you'll have to have a very light pistol).

Thank you very much for this info. How much strength should try to get? Also, what is the maximum level in this game?

The maximum level is 50 (unless you have the no-level-cap patch).

You probably want at least 6-8 strength if you are going to use a pistol. Possibly 8-10/12 if you want to use a two handed gun (I forget how heavy these are, I haven't played Arcanum in a while).

But so that you don't spend all of your points there, you can probably be fine with one handed weapons. You can have some pretty good pistols in the game.
If you're going for a gunslinger, you'll want a high PE (affects your chance of hitting things), and also a decent STR if you want to wield some of the heavier guns in the game. Dex is important for all characters as it determines your speed (and therefore, how many shots you get in per round - important for a gunslinger trying to drop enemies before they get too close.) Higher dex also reduces the chances of critical failures. Finally, if you're planning to build your own guns, you'll want a decent INT score, though you can also temporarily boost this stat with Potions of Intelligence if you have the spare cash to buy them. (There are an unlimited number of them in the game - the gypsies sell them.)

Note that gunslingers tend to be a bit underpowered early in the game, until you get a decent gun and get your Dex and PE up a bit. My character felt pretty useless until I got a Hand Cannon, and then the whole game changed....

Here are some of the better guns and their STR requirements (note: I am going from memory, so my numbers may be slightly off):

Elephant Gun (can be found or crafted): 12 STR
Tesla Gun (must be crafted): 12 STR
Blade Launcher (must be crafted): 15 STR
Hand Cannon (found or crafted - one of the more powerful pistols, a great early-game weapon): 8-9 str??
Looking glass rifle (found or crafted - great sniper rifle): 7-9 str???
The guard captain's super-duper-machine-gun that I forget what it's called (unique, only found on the Tarant guard captain): 14 STR?

What I usually do with this game to make it easy, is I spend all my points into the weapon style of choice in the beginning and 3 levels after. So that would be melee and dodge or bow and dodge, ranged/gun and dodge, etc. I get that offensive skill such as melee up so I can train and become an expert and have 75% hit chance. Then from there I spend points that aid that skill and make my character hard to kill.

For melee this would mean strength, constitution and maybe willpower. Anything that makes me have a large pool of life and fatigue is a good thing.

For gun masters and ranged weapon experts, this would be dexterity for extra armor class and speed in tb combat.

The best advice for this game is to not forget the basic stats in game. A lot of people try and make a jack of all trades in this game and it doesnt work unless you really know what you are doing.
