Hi, I play Arcanum for a few days now and after a few graphic and performace issues the game runs pretty well now.
But now Virgil got stuck outside the arachnid warehouse. He just stood there, not moving anymore and I couldn't interact with him. The only way I could interact with him was by his potrait on the left. But that didnt solve the problem. I also kicked him off my group. He still stands there. How long does a companion wait? Does he still return although I kicked him off my group?
Its pretty hard and annoying without a healer :(
Sometimes companions detect enemies through walls and won't move on. You may need to go in and kill everything inside.

Oh no, I considered that case.. But the arachnids are way to hard at the moment.. is there another healer I can get? Im level 11 now.
Do you have a save with him still in the group?
If so, did the command "back off" (press F5, or menu on the left) not work?
Can you enter the sewers or bates house?
He should spawn with you in the new area, if he is in your party.
Another healer is Yayna Stiles in Dernholm (Tech-Aptitude).
You can give rough commands to your followers. F3 will tell them all to "stay close", so if you move away from the warehouse and issue that command, it might help get Virgil unstuck. You can also use the F5 key to command Virgil to "stop fighting". (F4 commands him to "spread out", but you probably don't want to use that here.)

Are you using turn-based combat? If so, I think that can help you tell whether Virgil is stuck because he's trying to fight things. You can try toggling combat mode a few times to see if it gets him unstuck. The R key will toggle combat mode.

I've also heard that if you kick someone out of your party and then wait long enough, they will return to a specific location, and then you can go pick them up again. Virgil should return to the crash site where you first met him if you kick him out of the party and then wait long enough (possibly have to leave Tarant before you wait). You can try that if the other methods don't work.

EDIT: Google suggests that if you boot Virgil out, he may be gone for good, unlike the other NPCs who will return to where you found them.... so maybe don't try that.

DOUBLE EDIT: username4 beat me to it!

I dont have a save with him still in the group. The commands didnt work. I think moving to an other location would have worked. Another companion got stuck too after I looked if Virgil is still sthere (maybe 10 days past). So the big failure was to kick him.. :/
the game is very unforgiving.. I also found the dog in ashbury dead. I must save more and not only quick save :/

*edit* oh Im an half elf mage. so a tech companion wont work very good

The Arachnids are very slow. So maybe you could attack them and run away, luring them away until Virgil is no longer aggro.
The Problem is, that Virgil might still attack them and die, but worth trying.
I can try that. But also they seem slow they move realy far in one turn

This is absolutely true. Keep a few manual save slots and rotate them (in addition to quicksaves).

The secret to Dog is that you have about one hour of game time (about 10 minutes of real time) to save him the first time you enter the town. If for whatever reason you enter Ashbury and then leave again without doing so, the clock will have already started ticking, and you won't get another chance. When you return to Ashbury, he'll already be dead.

In real time combat mode you can outrun them, switch with space-bar or options-menu.
In turn-based their speed is determined by their Dex, which is fairly high, but outside of combat, or in real time they are very slow.

Also as a mage you can become quite overpowered. The harm spell is just broken.
So alternatively, let Virgil die and level up inside the closed sewers, there is an entrance in the lighthouse to the very south. By the time you have cleared them you should have enough money to resurrect Virgil and enough levels to kill the arachnids yourself.

Maybe you can also resurrect the dog, before his corpse disappears, i have not tried that.

Personally, I recommend never using quicksave and quickload.

I've heard of people having all sorts of strange problems arise from QS and QL. It's pretty rare, but it can happen.

Save regularly in regular save slots and you should be fine.
