hardware : brand spankin' new lenovo ideapad p400 touch running windows 8

software : arcanum most up to date + unofficial patch + hd maps/graphics + sound pack, you know, all the good stuff

problem : at some point you notice your character's base speed has been turned down, way down.

first run through : male techie thief w\ dual charged rings. assumed the items were bugging out. noticed during main sewers of tarant, immediately after madam lil's quests. tried dropping all items but no encumberance with a dex of 12 had a base speed of .. i think it was 6. or 4.. something way slow and not cool.

second run through : female elf mage, no items that effected stats at all but a more comprehensive saved files log to help pinpoint where the bug occurred. the last save to not be bugged was right before entering madam lil's.

i am not sure what it is about that brothel but by avoiding madam lil's entirely i avoid this bug. notice the two runs were with differing sexes so its not gender specific, either.

no whorehouse for windows 8? the female mage run through was able to 'gain access' to the gentlemen's club without the bug appearing, so i doubt its the 'sexy time' making it occur.

I have to ask: you DID NOT apply the official patch (it was already included in the download), but DID apply the unofficial one (as found in the pinned thread at the top of this board). Right?

I'd also suggest undoing the HiRes graphics patch, and possibly the sound pack, and seeing whether removing either (or both) of those fixes the problem.

Past that, I'm clueless. If it's a Win8 issue, someone else will have to step up.

Crippled leg?

It does happen.

You can check by clicking to the correct tab on the quest journal (the Kills & Injuries tab, which is the two swords crossed). If it says you have a crippled leg, that's affecting your speed. Get healing by asking virgil to cast Major Healing on you if he is high enough level, or go to an herbalist. Doc Roberts in Shrouded Hills could set you right also.

To open the quest journal (officially called Log Book) press L. It's also a button to the left of your maintained spells, like inventory and map.
