Hi All,

Having bought this game (my friend and I), I was just trying to set up a network game (internet appears impossible), and the only module I can select is "Vormantown".

How does one select the main campaign module ("Arcanum") and how does one save progression in a coop multiplayer game?

Thanks in advance.
Lance.

That's right - by default, the main campaign is single-player only. With a map this large I'd imagine it's somewhat tricky to make it into coop, as multiplayer has no fast travel. Though I'm assuming conversion projects do exist out there, so I'd recommend searching for more info.

Hi YnK,

Thanks for responding.

EDIT: Chapter 5 of the manual definitely implies this game can be played coop.

Actually though, that's not how I understood the game to be described. When you check the description, it says "coop" and is one of the reasons my friend and I bought it. I knew there was no "fast travel" as descriptions mention that, as they also mention there is no turn-based combat in MP mode. However, it certainly gives the impression that it is multiplayer "coop" playable. I never even knew or heard of "Vormantown" when I bought the game (as another module) and so would expect the description to make it clear that this game ("Arcanum") is not coop.

Are you saying this is definitely the case? As I am not that concerned about playing this as a SP game, as I already have a stack load of those (all much newer) to play.

It will be a real shame if that's the case. I'll have to check if my friend wants to abandon this game and keep funds for another coop when available.

Thanks,
Lance.

A:WIP's coop mod might be able to do the trick, so check it out.

And both of you really should try playing the main module either way, even in single player. It's very worth it. Just be sure to install the unofficial patch to squash the bugs.

Hi YnK,

Thanks for the link, but it appears the project was "put on hold" back in 2010.

I agree that the game looks quite interesting and I *may* stick with it anyway. However, I am somewhat disappointed with it not being coop as I was led to believe.

Unofficial patch: Are there still bugs with this version then? Can you direct me to the "unofficial patch" so I can check out what has had to be fixed? I can then discuss the options with my friend and see what he wants to do.

(I tried looking for some patches to do with things like screen res, but actual files required and instructions were not very clear. Hopefully, "the unofficial patch" will have clearer instructions.)

EDIT: Actually, I found this site now, which looks clearer:- http://www.terra-arcanum.com/downloads/

Many Thanks,
Lance.

All the patches are linked in the sticky , with installation order indicated. They're not very difficult to install, just point them to the correct folder. The UAP comes with a [url=http://terra-arcanum.com/drog/dest/uap.html#changelog]changelog, so you can see what it does (beware spoilers though).

The version offered on GOG is the latest official version of the game, but yes, it's quite buggy, since it was never properly polished before release (by Troika, not by GOG). The UAP fixes most of the bugs without upsetting the game balance, which honestly probably should've been fixed, but there are other mods for that. Either way, the bugs in the vanilla game are ridiculous, to put it mildly.
