If they remade it what do you think it would be like? would it be too similar to elder scrolls?

IMO better than a remake would be a prequel, set during the Age of Legends. Magic was stronger, tech was stronger, and the dwarves were in the middle of their own civil war.
Does Bethesda own the Arcanum IP now?

This is purely a what if question
Ahh ok. I don't know about you, but I'd love for Obsidian Entertainment to get the rights. Especially after I read a quote from Timothy Cain saying that "There is more of me in Fallout and Arcanum than in any other game I made."

Oh if only I could win the lottery...

Arcanum is very different to anything Bethesda currently do. You'd probably see something like what they did with the Fallout IP I suppose. Personally I'd rather see it taken up by the actual developers (Obsidian I think).
why not obsidian

seriously. you wanna put a real RPG in Bethesda's hands? did you not see what they did to Fallout?
as much as i love Bethesda's games, i don't think they're the right developer for this. they make a totally different kind of RPG.

not sure if i would want to see Obsidian tackle it again, they're not what they used to be. they're good writers, but that's about all. it would just end up a barely playable buggy mess like all of their other games. they really should just stick to writing and leave the coding to others.

even Bioware are a shadow of their former selves. i doubt they could do anything with the same kind of scope anymore.

i think someone like CDProjekt would be the best bet, they know how to do huge size and fine detail better than anyone right now.

They fucked up Fallout, and they will fail with Arcanum too!!!
Bethesda should focus only on TES, it's all they are good at.

To even suggest that Bethesda do this is a major no-no...
And don't even ask Blizzard to make this, The complexity of this game is to much for their skills,
Diablo and Warcraft games proves that too.
And the unreal engine would not work with this game.

I did not mention bethesda i said obsidian like i wanna rather see obsidian make a new Arcanum.
Eh. I don't think Bethesda have the right people to do an Arcanum remake. I've played, Morrowind and Skyrim and both of those games seems to be more about exploration. While Arcanum is more about...... uh... role playing, I guess.

I mean, in Arcanum, to travel to various dungeons, all you need to do is go to the edge of the screen and just fast travel from there.

In Morrowind, you need to walk all the way to the dungeons. Aaaaaand I always get sidetracked really fast because, oooh, that pixel over there looks unusual, let's check it out!
Same goes for Skyrim. I bet the Greybeards were worried that they lost their voice power because I took about 5 months before going to their fort.

If Bethesda remade it I would think it would be more open world than a rpg game.It would probably resemble Elder Scrolls/Fallout 3 than Arcanum.I think the only way to get a proper remake or sequel/prequel would be for the original designers to do a kick starter.
I think first their should be a remake made and this should be handled by Obsidian.

Why?

Most of the staff of Toika games is Obsidian, and damn do they know their RPG's

Why a remake?

I would love to see a big beautiful Arcanum that is is 3D,polished and possibly first-person(though not strictly needed). I think it would bring a lot to the table (as it already does) if say Tarant was done in 3D the beauty of its tall brick and mortar buildings or its factories, or say the the port-town shanties. Its just so beautiful...
Anyway I think it would be good to have that to pull in newer gamer types to the game. Also to have it polished and some game aspects worked out.

There was plans for Sequel that involved going to depths of Arcanum (a la Jules Verne to the center of the earth) and I would love for that to come about too.
If we are talking about an 'Arcanum à la Fallout 3' .... I'd say it could be great. Now I have to point out that I hated Fallout 3, and I doubt they could do a morrowindesque plot again, animate steampunky contraptions in an impressive fashion, make witty dialogues .... and so on.

I'd love that though.
