Hi, and I guess this is a bit annoying question :)
I have a lubuntu operation system.
Which has this program that loads windows games... and they mostly work.
I don't actually do anything more than windows users, just double-click the downloaded gog-installer.exe
of the game. This way Fallout 1 and 2 for example worked perfectly.
But with Arcanum, the installer does not start even properly, system gives me some error message,
and that's that, program quits.
"Runtime Error (at 134:148):
Access violation at address 7C63D200 in module 'gdiplus.dll'. Read of address 00211DFC."
That is not so helpful :D
I have no idea what to do. I don't have a windows system, and no idea where to get one that would work on my old and only computer...

Both in winehq have widescreen patch enabled, have you installed it, and the Unofficial patch aswell?

You want to patch the soft before you install it? Let me know how that works out.

Things work out differently in Linux, and yes you can sideload patches for some programs Not that I know of, IDK, maybe you have old Wine version (newest is 1.5.26)? or are using the default prefix, you should really make a new wine prefix for each program install

thanks to this problem, ended up installing "mint linux" OS. And it looks nicer than my old lubuntu in many ways. Never knew about it. Although I get the same error message :) well, one keeps trying...

in my case anyway the case is closed/solved.
got hold of win xp. I used to have that installed... why oh why did I gave that up :)
so to any linux user I can only say good luck with that, hope all pans out with arcanum.
xp is a terrific operation system for gog games, also my xcom apocalypse i bought some time ago started working.

I know you switched to xp, but for anyone else reading this, open the console, type winetricks, choose Select the default WINE prefix ->Install a Windows DLL or component and then check gdiplus.

Or if the only problem is the installation you could extract the datafiles with innoextract.

I remember doing a bit tweaking with lubuntu and winetricks and no-go. Can't remember if I tried installing windows dlls. My guess is also that maybe it could work on newer/better-specs systems, since there was info on wine site about it working.

From what you pasted here, the lack of the windows version of gdiplus was the problem. Should work on older systems/no-frills versions of Linux as well. Arcanum is an old game and no-frills Linuxen lack frills, not useful functionality

It does install and run well "out-of-the-box" on Debian Sid with Wine 1.5.6 (installed on a clean prefix).
The Unofficial Arcanum Patch works well too.

Thought it should work on Ubuntu and Linux Mint too.
That was probably only a configuration issue.

i don't know if the op still needs help, but if anybody else should, like me, encounter that problem:

the "gdiplus.dll"-error is, as far as i understand, due to the updated gog-installers. i had the same problem, the solution was to either

a) as someone mentioned before: install "gdiplus.dll" via winetricks (didn't work for me, for some reason)

b) install the playonlinux-frontend for wine and use the included installation-scripts (worked and works like a charm)

if anybody needs a more detailed explanation i'd be happy to give one, i'm just really tired right now.
