Hi,

Although it states on the store that it´s W10 compatible, I thought I would ask if it really works well, or do you have some limitations in-game, joysticks (screen resolutions, ect.).

It's a DOS game running on Dosbox so you shouldn't have any problems running it on Windows 10.

If you want to try different configurations or as general knowlegde I recommend reading the following:

Didn´t know it was running on Dosbox, I though GOG managed to run it in some other way.

Originally this game had a Windows .exe and a Windows 3dfx .exe but those aren't supplied and supported by gog.
Maybe there are means to get them to work but I doubt it's worth the effort.

Thanks for you´re reply and time. Would you happen to know which differences there are between this DI version and Janes Longbow Gold (or none Gold) versions?

Also does this version work well with joysticks?

I sold my version of Janes Longbow 2 and I now regret it. I play EECH with the allMods (latest), but miss the Janes version TBH.

Janes Longbow is more detailed on all marks like graphics, sound, weaponsystems, flightmodel, etc.
It also has a better tutorial, which is quite important in a complex sim.
What I like more about DI's Longbow is that the action feels more alive when you're on the battlefield where a lot of stuff is happening. It's also easier to get into and start flying and doing missions. I don't really remember this about Janes Longbow but DI's Longbow has a very good mission planner (ported over from DI's Tornado).

DI's Longbow works with usb joysticks, throttles and rudders though you might need to config Dosbox for them to work properely. You also need to configure them in the game appropriately.
There is a problem with joystick button two (weapons cylcing) but you can get around it by binding the Enter key to that button instead.

For Dosbox config check if you have:

buttonwrap=false

It sucks that you don't have Janes Longbow anymore, though you can try the used market if you want a full copy with manual and such. Because it so old (relatively speaking) it's pretty rare where I live but it does pop up from time to time and it's not even that expensive, maybe about €25 - €35 for a boxed copy.
It might appear on GoG or other digital store but I doubt GoG or EA are putting any effort for getting it here. Frankly speaking the popular interest in flightsimulators has waned and it also has a Janes license sticked on it, but then again nothing is impossible.

I have been thinking on buying a used copy (some on eBay), but I also see alot of folks with issues running it. Iam a memeber of the SimHQ forum were there is alot of community effort to get Janes LB series working on (x64) machines, but some work, others don´t so it´s a bit trciky and maybe a waste of money.

That´s why Iam interested in checking out the DI version, not so much for what it cost, but if I had to choose, I would rather spend it on any of the Janes versions, if I were to know that it would work with no issues on my W10 PC.

I´ll probably buy GOG´s DI version, which seems to be more stable out of the box, well you know what I mean.

Well, at least I enjoyed it when it came out back in 2000 ;-)

Jane's AH-64D Longbow is a dos game so it works with dosbox, I can confirm because I've played it a couple of years ago, the only thing that's tricky is getting the 3dfx version to work (which I never have tried because I have the standard version, 3dfx came with the gold or the expansion). Generally speaking games that had a 3dfx upgrade later in their life aren't nessecarily the best versions of the game so I wouldn't dwell on it.

Jane's Longbow 2 on the other hand is Windows only which is indeed notoriously tricky to get working I've been told as I haven't got this game. Though you could try a bootleg version before you take plunge buying it. It might also be worth considering getting a late 1990's PC as then you can comfortably run the game. Again this can be purchased relatively cheap if you're patient and know where to look or throw some fishinglines so to speak.

Also I would use e-bay/Amazon as a last resort, try local thriftstores or the Spanish equivalent of Craig's List as that also maybe allows you to check out the goods before you buy.

Yes, that´t what Iam doing, trying a bootleg version and it´s giving me some hard times (random freezes) with gdVoodoo wrapper.

I do have my old PC in my parents house but with this lockdown I can´t get to my parents house to check what it is and what graphic card it has. It´s most likely a Pentium II, or III and if I didn´t throw away the card, it´s probaby a good card too. Raedon Sapphire, or a 3Dfx Voodoo card because I played all these games (Janes ect.) back in 2000.

So will see what I can do...

Hello, The Windows 95 version can be found here: Has a built in manual by pressing F1 on the keyboard. Neither the DOS version or 3dfx version has this option. https://archive.org/details/Apache_Longbow_V2.0_Digital_Integration_1996

The software version works fine under Windows 8.1 using dgVodoo 2 2.74.1 DDraw.dll. The 3dfx version is a pain to get working as the 3DFX upgrade patch keeps crashing on modern operating systems like Windows 8.1 or Windows 10. If you manage to get it working you'll need nGlide installed and it should work ok.
