First of all, great to see that GOG embraced this great game in their library. I used to play this game in my own language (Dutch, NL). As I still own the original game on CD-ROM, I tried to replace some files and folders from the English GOG release in order to be able to play the game in Dutch. So far, I managed to replace some particular files and folders with the ones from my original CD-ROM. Now everything is in Dutch and it works great!

Here's how to:

1. Install the game from the GOG release
1. Install the game from the original CD-ROM
2. In the GOG install directory, make a backup of the following files and folders:

- SAMPLES
- SPEECH8
- Szenes
- TOOLGFX
- VIDEOSMK
- Language.dll (from root game folder)
- text.cod (from root game folder)

3. From install dir of the original CD-ROM release, copy all the folders and files mentioned above to the GOG install directory. VIDEOSMK can be copied from the CD-ROM itself (so not the CD-ROM install dir).

4. You're finished! Now you're able to play the game in the language that has no release on GOG! :)

If someone is interested in the Dutch voice and language files, I can upload them somewhere. However I do not know if that's actually legal.

Few countries did not get 1602 Gold edition released, eg. Poland. This results in some issues when trying to change language:
- Scenarios in /Szenes won't work as they are because of the format change. You can skip it (not game breaking, can use original files and it works just fine).
- TOOLGFX files of menus and buttons have internal structure changed due to additional files. References to specific arts like score screen are now broken because other image occupies given numbered spot in the bsh file. The workaround would be to manually replace images in each bsh file using Sir Henry's 1602 Grafx Tool but this involves a lot of time.
- you only need localised intro file from VIDEOSMK really: 58.smk
- ..\SAMPLES\ files do not need to be replaced as they are just ambient. Also, there a few new speech files included in Gold only (see below). There are, however, few files not included in Gold:
Anker.wav (ambient)
Eingebne.wav (ambient)
Fischer.wav (ambient)
Fluss.wav (ambient)
Hirsch.wav (ambient)
Pyramide.wav (ambient)
Schiff.wav (ambient)
Schlaf.wav (ambient)
Schnaub.wav (ambient)
Tabakwrn.wav (ambient)
Tore.wav (ambient)
Weberei.wav (ambient)
Weingut.wav (ambient)
Werft.wav (ambient)
Wiehern.wav (ambient)
- there are two ..\SPEECH8\ files included in Gold only (not breaking):
988.wav (speech)
992.wav (speech)
- same in ..\SAMPLES\ (not breaking)
sdtattk1.wav (speech)
sdtattk2.wav (speech)
sdtattk3.wav (speech)
sdtattk4.wav (speech)
sdtattk5.wav (speech)
sdtattk6.wav (speech)
sdtmove1.wav (speech)
sdtmove2.wav (speech)
sdtmove3.wav (speech)
sdtmove4.wav (speech)
shpattk1.wav (speech)
shpattk2.wav (speech)
shpattk3.wav (speech)
shpattk4.wav (speech)
shpmove1.wav (speech)
shpmove2.wav (speech)
shpmove3.wav (speech)
shpmove4.wav (speech)
shpmove5.wav (speech)
- Language.dll and text.cod vanilla files are incompatible with Gold and cause game to crash.

Manual translation would require lots of time. Any ideas appreciated. :')

Hallo Hinsert,

Ik zou ook graag weer de game in het Nederlands spelen. Maar kan de CD niet meer vinden. Zou je mij de bestanden willen sturen?

Groeten Hein
