I finally got this 5 GB monster downloaded and installed. It looks good but it's so dark that I hardly can see something in the dark locations. I can't find a setting in the game menu - is there a Linux config file for this?

Hello outcast1,

As a workaround, I recommend changing brightness in your system for as long as you're running the game.

If you use an NVIDIA card with official drivers from the vendor (proprietary), you should be able to do that using NVIDIA X Server Settings (the command to run it is nvidia-settings), in the "Color Correction" section.

For AMD or Intel video cards using Mesa driver, I recommend using a third-party application for changing brightness, such as Brightness Control (https://github.com/lordamit/Brightness). You can install it easily in Ubuntu using the instructions shown on the project page in the "Installation via PPA" section.
