I'm having problems running Alone in the Dark on an ASUS U30Jc-b1 running 64-bit Windows 7.

When I first attempted to run Alone in the Dark, I seemed to get stuck at the Infogrames logo (the prismatic armadillo). It seemed something was running in the background as I heard what sounded like pages being turned but nothing happened.

Further attempts to run Alone in the Dark resulted in a black screen but with the same sounds playing in the background.

I'm wondering if this might be a problem caused by the rather odd default resolution of my ASUS (1366 x 768) or whether it is related to Windows 7.

I haven't begun to tinker with the Dosbox configuration file yet as I was wondering if anyone else has encountered this problem and what their solutions were.

Thanks in advance!

First thing to try would be changing graphic mode to something else (Menu Start->GOG.com->[game])
Second would be switching to windowed mode (fullscreen=false in *.conf file), which would rule out any possible troubles with resolution.
Changing the graphics mode to OpenGL did the trick!

Thank you!
I seem to be having the same problem as the OP. I attempted to change the graphics mode to OpenGL, but whenever I try to save my settings, the application gives me an error message that the game isn't installed.
Is there anyone who can help me out?

in my case (win 7 64, nvidia gt540m), using openglnp setting in that menu resolve my launching problem.

anyway, in game's image is like cut in a half and controls don't work. for instance, when i select a voice and press space, it's like i select the one below. maybe i should try different graphical settings?

It's always a good idea to try all modes and see which one works the best for you.

For the second problem, launch the game in windowed mode, see if it helps. If so, then it's probably scaling issue.

In Nvidia Control Panel set scaling mode to 'maintain Aspect Ratio' (it's under Adjust Desktop Size and Position). Go back to the game folder, edit *.conf file in Notepad and set fullresolution=desktop

by the way: is it correct that in alone in the dark 2 my audio is scratching all the time? i don't have sound problems with alone in the dark 1. any idea?

I just followed your instructions, and all three games now work. Thank you very much for helping me out.
