The sword on the right room in the first hallway, the zombie bursts into the room too fast despite I know what I'm doing. Seeing as this sword appears to be a gamebreaker, I wonder if it's put there to fool me. Also, I've heard tons of stuff regarding how badass Edward Carnby is, but can I actually punch zombies to death? The thing is, their arms are stretched out in typical zombie fashion, that I can't reach them without them attacking me first.

Also, the giant demon bird thing that crashed through the window at the very beginning, I actually let it crash through just to experiment, and I managed to trap it in a combo of punches that it couldn't fight back, I must have punched it for 5 minutes straight, until I realized that seeing as I'm not actually meant to kill it (at least not this early in the game) it's probably not flagged as killable and so I just restored.

If I had kept punching, could I have eventually killed it?

If I remember right, the sword is part of a puzzle later on. You can use it, but it will eventually break (you get another sword that doesn't later on). If it does, you should have the parts and can still use them to solve the puzzle.

You can definitely beat zombies to death (not sure about the bird thing), the kick has the best rage, if I remember right, and will knock them back so despite the wind-up, if you get the timing down, the kick is your best option for non-weapon melee. It might take a bit though.
You are meant to avoid the "bird thing" that comes in the attic window.

If you only have the first breakable sword to fight the zombie, look again in the attic.

I know I'm supposed to avoid it, but I was just curious if the game rewards doing things you're normally not supposed to do. Like if there's an easter egg that I can actually kill the demon after 500 punches, it would really make no difference and wastes time, but it would feel extremely satisfying.

Hey, is it possible for you to record that happening with the bird? It's supposed to die in 10 punches/kicks (as most killable enemies in the game, though there may be 1-2 kinds that require a better weapon than fists). To record in DosBox, just hit ctrl-alt-F5 to start and stop. It'll save it in a folder called "capture" where the GOG folder for the game is.

There's nothing in the game that rewards you for grinding. It it doesn't die, don't keep trying. Save/load before. As others said you can defeat any killable enemies in melee but with some types of monsters it's really tough and requires good timing. The kicks have the biggest reach.

Also the sabre room: you can avoid that encounter.

I meant, a personal achievement. Just so the player can say "yeah, I'm badass"

And sadly I doubt I'd be able reproduce that again, I think I got lucky that I managed to corner it like that but thanks :)

Also, I tried Ctrl-Alt-F5 does nothing, I looked it up and Crtl-Shift-Alt-F5 is an alternate way, also nothing. Is there something I'm supposed to install or activate beforehand?

Sorry for very late reply.

It doesn't actually give you a prompt that it's started or stopped recording, nor does it for screenshots. The recordings are named after the exe DosBox is executing at the time (shown in the status bar up top) so AITD videos are called INDARK_XXX.avi where XXX starts from 000. Try looking for such a file afterwards.

If you can reproduce this thing, I'm still interested in it as I've studied the game and haven't come across anything remotely like it.

It turns out the recording "should" normally work, the problem is I don't have a MP4 or alternate program installed that allows me to record videos on my computer.

Hey, I wanted to ask you once again if you could produce a recording? You're playing the GOG version, no doubt? Did you do anything with the game files before you started playing? This is not normal behaviour for the game and I'd like to study it.

Even/especially a save file where this glitch is occuring would help. Those are in the INDARK folder.

I can produce recordings on my new laptop, but this scenario was ages ago. I'm rather over it.

Besides I'm not even sure if it could happen again.

Getting that bird in a stunlock is not difficult when you've landed the first hit.

This effectively didn't happen then. I'm looking for tricks/leads for a speedrun of the game, have been for years. I'm assuming you also were playing the GOG (CD-ROM) version.

I apologize in advance, but what I mean is, I posted this two years ago, I simply don't care about this anymore.
I apologize in advance, but what I mean is, you're being kind of selfish. ;) Either that or you lied about this. I just can't see why you would have.

I'm sorry if you see me as selfish, or as a liar. Lying isn't in my nature. But is it selfish to not let complete strangers push me into doing something I have no desire to do?

By your logic, if it's a complete stranger, you have no moral obligation to ever do fucking anything. A lot of people are probably interested in seeing this glitch. It's not exactly likely, but such things have some chance of influencing what the speedruns will look like as well. Some people are putting a lot of effort into this kind of stuff. You're not in such a different position compared to someone who doesn't want to report bugs (let alone figure out how to reproduce them) when you're playing some game. A great number of people will not cause they "have no desire to do" that.

Besides, by your logic, if it's someone you know, are you saying your moral responsibility is different? Why might that be?

You either don't understand how simple the task is, if it really works that way in your copy, or yes, you're being selfish. :)
