I have the setup_avp_classic_2.0.0.25.exe. Is this the most current and up to date version available on GOG?

When I use the version parameter command in the console it says Version 1.07.

For Steam it said Version 1.06 when I applied the same thing.

So I wonder if there had been any other changes or updates in GOG's version compared to Steam's version since GOG's version seems to have been updated since the version number is different compared to the Steam release?

Here's a changelog for the Steam edition of AvP Classic 2000 btw:

Version 1.06
============
#Added game type to the game description on the “Join Game” menu.
#Multiplayer is no longer in beta.

Version 1.05
============
# Fixed Alien tail attack crash in MP games
# Fixed rare crash in Last Man Standing
# Fixed problems with getting the wrong player's name when someone leaves
# Fixed clip bug on aspect ratios other than 4:3
# Fixed so game now loads the last used MP config on entering MP menu
# Survivor always uses Steam name
# Added "Host private game" option
# Re-enabled custom map support
# Simplified menus for "Joystick controls"
# Fixed some rare singleplayer crashes

Version 1.04
============
# Integrated with Steam overlay
# Uses Steam name
# Host/join games via bare-bones in-game lobby browser
# Can invite and join friends and other players via the Steam overlay
# Game attempts host migration
# Supports windowed mode with -w command line switch

Version 1.03
============
# Improved HUD scaling for the Marine and Predator. Now HUDs don't
dominate the screen so much at high resolutions, and they also work'
correctly with extreme widescreen displays (e.g. an Eyefinity three
monitor 48:9 setup).
# Rewritten D3D9 initialisation and video mode select. Now more
streamlined and without legacy DX6/DX7 redundancies (less chance to fail
on modern drivers).

Version 1.02
============
# Fix for video resolution menu on German version

Version 1.01
============
# Proper widescreen support. Previously the game allowed non-4:3 video
modes (e.g. 1920x1080) but just rendered a stretched 4:3 image. Now the
game renders at the correct aspect ratio (e.g. 5:4, 16:9, 16:10), with
the vertical f-o-v remaining fixed and the horizontal field-of-view
changing accordingly. (i.e. 16:9 modes now render more to the sides than
a 4:3 mode).
# By popular demand, added an -unlimitedsaves command line option. By
launching the game with -unlimitedsaves in the command line, players can
now save as many times as they like, rather than being restricted to a
set number of saves per level.
# Replaced timer code with a new high-resolution version for improved
accuracy.
# Frame-rate now locks to a maximum of 120 to fix gameplay issues when
running at very high rates (e.g. when vsync is disabled).
# Mouse sensitivity/accuracy improvements for mice with a high poll rate.
# Fix for invalid characters in device name in video resolution menu
causing rendering problems.
# Fix for crash on machines without a sound card / where the sound drivers
are invalid. (Game will now run correctly with no sound.)

No, the current GOG installer is setup_avp_classic_2.0.0.26.exe

This game is a bit special as it's used for beta testing the upcoming GOG Galaxy client. Its multiplayer features use the new Galaxy framework that is still bundled with the game. Once the Galaxy client is fully released, the bundled components will be removed because from there on the client handles multiplayer. Long story short, the Steam version and the GOG version aren't fully comparable as Steam uses its own client and GOG's version still comes with parts of its beta client bundled.

there was an update on the unofficial patch in 8. January http://homepage.eircom.net/~duncandsl/avp/ ... Steam compatibility is stated... don't know about gog.com

The Steam version is wrong. It should be Version 1.07 as well. The game was updated so that crossplay is allowed between Steam and GOG servers. If you look at the date of the version in the console, it says the latest date is July 4, 2010. Clearly it's been updated since then.

As DeMignon said, the most up-to-date version is setup_avp_classic_2.0.0.26.exe

Any idea if that had been the only change?

That the game had only been updated to enable a crossplay possibility between the owners of the Steam version and GOG.com's DRM-free version?

And not any other known major changes to the game's code (such as other misc bug fixes, etc.,)?

I really wished Rebellion had done more to support this version of their AvP game, such as updating to restore LAN Multiplayer modes, particularly the TCP/IP option. But I doubt they bothered to put this back in in the current version.

Other than that maybe fix the Bots spawning from Debug mode as currently you cannot force spawning any Bots that are NOT already pre-loaded on the level. Although a 3rd party Unofficial patch from sirlemonhead had this problem addressed.

Indeed, everything you said is correct. There have been no bug fixes or any other updates to Classic 2000 since the July update to my knowledge. The only change with the new version to my knowledge is the crossplay support with GOG.

Updating for LAN would be excellent. Seeing as they stole the lemonhead patch just to make Classic 2000 and he never implemented any LAN support, I doubt Rebellion would, either. The only bug I wish would be fixed is the changing auras that the alien sees in hunt mode in single-player. It would be nice for Rebellion to get rid of the 255 grenade glitch as well as choose which grenades in the grenade launcher to ban (proxies), but realistically those won't happen.

Another idea for an update would be to add the custom maps to the list of multiplayer maps, at least the official ones if not all the fan-made ones. It would make creating games on custom maps much easier to get additional players.
