fulano5321: In my case I only hit them with the disk if I caught them unaware. I suspect it's a matter of moving towards the disk and strafing at the last minute so the disk couldn't turn sharp enough. We used to play a lot of Descent 3 so maybe they were really good at dodging homing weapons. I know they would hang next to walls and such to get it stuck too so I'd have to waste my energy recalling the disk.
I didn't know about proximity mines... must have missed that one. There was a lot of stuff we might not have figured out as we didn't have wikis back then. Playing games over the internet these days is quite a bit different than our old LAN parties, so maybe my feeling of the game being balanced comes from the guys I played with knowing me really well so I never got that far ahead.
Playing LAN with friends is no substitute for jumping online and finding out how other people play. There are probably many things you may not know about the game. The idea of wikis being something to find out about the game is possible, but I am sure most players would of learned many techniques through raw, hard earned experience with the game by facing people online that were far more skilled than they were themselves.
On a final note, the only possible way to 'dodge' the disc is if the disc is thrown at you from such a distance that if you jump behind a wall all of a sudden then the disc will just hit the wall. That being said, even with that happening, it is not difficult to simply return the disc and start throwing again.
