The Predator in the hands of someone who knows what they are doing, is an absolute chore to take down. That disc grrr. More than that, it's the sheer amount of punishment they can take. Aliens too, are tricky. The Marine? Well, he's just a little squishy bloke really isn't he? :D

If anyone needs players for their games (preferably without Pred-Frisby), please send me a PM anytime if you're short of numbers. Thanks :)

vyor: Little known trick:

You can doge the disk and force the predator to run after it. Just get close to a wall and start strafe jumping along it. The disk will get stuck in the wall, leaving the pred vulnerable to an easy kill.

Grzegorz925: The strafe jump is actually good to know, I will have to try that out next time. Although a predator can always recall the disc if it misses.
It takes a massive amount of energy, if I remember from the tests I ran in the survival mode correctly, at full charge you can recall it 3 times.

You can recall it five times at full charge.

Just tried it out myself now, I was able to recall a total of 5 times before running out of energy, allowing for 6 throws. Depending on when you recall, you can actually recall the disc for FREE.

It's been a while :P
They are supposed to be tougher and I still think they are balanced.

When I used to play this game, I played as predator, my brother played as alien, and his friend played as marine. Our scores were always pretty evenly matched. The alien would sneak up on the ceiling and tail whip my head all the time, and the marine would use his radar to find me and bounce grenades around corners to catch me by surprise. He'd use his radar to hide and surprise me until he killed me. If he had the mini-gun he almost always killed me.

This game is definitely not a stand out in the open and shoot the enemy type game. The wins usually went to the sneakiest player.

The other thing we found is if there were more than one predator the changing view mode thing got to be a huge pain, and the predators always did the worst. Watch for when the predator kills another race then surprise him as because he will be in the wrong view mode and you will have a few seconds before he can change it. My friend would stalk me when they found me and after I killed one the other would rush in and kill me.

This is just my opinion, but I wouldn't play on a server that blocks weapons. All of the weapons have weaknesses and ways to counter them.
Predator is overpowered, and GOG players need to start looking at it as a fact.

When the merger with Steam finally happens, GOG players are going to...well...see some things about the way this game is played by seasoned players. You'll see that even with the Disc and Predator Pistol disabled, Predator remains overpowered but at least the game becomes manageable.

Please tell me how to counter the disc and proxy mines.

In my case I only hit them with the disk if I caught them unaware. I suspect it's a matter of moving towards the disk and strafing at the last minute so the disk couldn't turn sharp enough. We used to play a lot of Descent 3 so maybe they were really good at dodging homing weapons. I know they would hang next to walls and such to get it stuck too so I'd have to waste my energy recalling the disk.

I didn't know about proximity mines... must have missed that one. There was a lot of stuff we might not have figured out as we didn't have wikis back then. Playing games over the internet these days is quite a bit different than our old LAN parties, so maybe my feeling of the game being balanced comes from the guys I played with knowing me really well so I never got that far ahead.

The turns of the disk are so sharp that you can barely every get away. Unless your an alien in a open map, you are going to die.

Also Proxies are OP! D:

Playing LAN with friends is no substitute for jumping online and finding out how other people play. There are probably many things you may not know about the game. The idea of wikis being something to find out about the game is possible, but I am sure most players would of learned many techniques through raw, hard earned experience with the game by facing people online that were far more skilled than they were themselves.

On a final note, the only possible way to 'dodge' the disc is if the disc is thrown at you from such a distance that if you jump behind a wall all of a sudden then the disc will just hit the wall. That being said, even with that happening, it is not difficult to simply return the disc and start throwing again.
The predator is made to be overall more powerfull than everyone else, while the alien should swarm people and marines just run :P
It's late but I made a short video sort of showing some strategies you can use as the standard marine against a predator. I mostly see newbies starting off as the standard marine in multiplayer, either to test out the various weapons or because they feel comfortable with a large arsenal, even though I think it's ultimately a bad choice against a predator.

Look Ma, I made the tube XD
Good tips, as always, but don't be too hard on the guy that quit. How was he to know you were manhandling him for educational purposes ;)
I think I've earned the right to complain. Nearly every single time I get at least four kills on GOG players in AVP Classic, they leave. Either the servers are that unstable, or they're rage-quitters. And it's no fun to play against people who won't play with you for more than a few minutes. And trust me, this happens all the time.
