Dear GOG-Team, dear reader,

let's make something clear because my window(s) is dirty...

Seriously, I can't enjoy the game because it shows me a black screen with the ingame cursor and the music is playing after the intro.

I tried to start it in "windows 98" compatibilty mode and I could see the mainmenu for the first time but everything was displaced and the background seemed to be mirrored. It was not playable.

I don't have any FFDshow installed as I have a new laptop from the store (Hearthstone runs fluidly).

I appreciate any help.

Same problem here...
Starting AN.exe > Intro shown fine > then black screen appears, only the mouse (arrow) is shown and the music is playing.

I tried different compatibility settings, screen resolutins and scalings... Checked settings in graphics card... No success at all.

I am using WIn10 laptop with GeForce GTX 1050 Ti and 2nd graphics adapter is Intel UHD Graphics 630.

Anybody got an idea on this?

What folder are your game files in? Mustn't be under program files. Default location of "normal" gog installer (not Galaxy!) should be fine. However, I understand that usually (as in my case) the real problems should occur later, when you start a game (though the menu was buggy for me as well). My game also doesn't recognize my Nvidia card, I have to use Intel graphics, so I guess it might be your card as well

i'm having this problem too. i just bought this comupter 2 months ago and i have windows 10. It seems that since this problem has been around since Jan of this year, gog would have done something about it by now. Does anyone know how to fix this yet?

Yes same problem on mine too. Alien Nations runs fine but with The Nation Gold Edition (Die Völker 2) I experience the same problem. I get as far as selecting a campaign and after black screen and sound.

I have exactly the same issue under WIn 11. The game starts but after choosing mission the screen is black.

Nearly 6 years after this post, and I can report the same issue.

Alien Nations is working fine, but Nations Gold is coming back with the same issues that other GOG players are reporting here. The troubleshooting fixes did not work for me. My files seem to be in the appropriate places.

I have no answers but I may just focus on the game that works instead of Nations Gold.
