Love the story and i know my wife would too but the game is just to hard to play for her.

Does anyone have or know about working cheat codes or a trainer for the GoG version?

The game even on easy is insanely hard at times and very very frustrating... which id rather just steam though so she can experience the story without the frustrating gameplay.
Create a shortcut, then add '-developermenu' to the end of the Target line.

e.g. mine reads:
"C:\Program Files (x86)\GOG.com\Alan Wake\alanwake.exe" -developermenu

It'll let you magic up flashlights, weapons, and ammo. Spamming flares = effective invincibility.

perfect this will help her not be so worried, also i just started "The Truth" wearing sound cancelling headphones in the dark basement... holy crap, this just got real!

Do you need to install anything else (like a "trainer") to get this cheat to function? If no other software is required, how do you activate the cheats?
No, you don't need any additional trainer. Create the shortcut as described, run it, and the pause menu will have a new item in it, a debug menu, that lets you activate the cheats.

Thanks for the clarification :)
This is even easier now since they added the ability to specify command line arguments to Galaxy.

1. Add -developermenu to the command line under the game settings in Galaxy.

Now we will need to launch alanwake.exe instead of AWLauncher.exe from Galaxy.

2. Manage Installation --> Show Folder from Galaxy.
3. Rename AWLauncher.exe to AWLauncher.old.
4. Copy alanwake.exe and rename the copy AWLauncher.exe.

Launch the game from Galaxy. You should now see the developer cheats from the main menu.
