I saw this game in the shop the other day, held it, turned it over and saw it was STEAMED. I put it back and walked away.

I decided to do my every now and then visit to GOG and saw you have the game here! But I must ask is it Steamed? I know it goes against GOG, but I have to ask because I`ve seen so many places that say they`ll never be Steam, get borged into Steam with no choice.

And I don`t like the Steam because I believe it takes away from SP freedom of gaming. :)

p.s. Is there any other kind of Online DRM I should be aware of?

Both Alan Wake & Alan Wake's American Nightmare are Steam-free here, nor do they have any other kind of DRM either :)

There have actually been a number of people that assumed it was steam dependent, and were a bit peeved to find out that the Steam requirement had been removed - just for us.

I personally considered that a big win for GOG, and I wouldn't have purchased it any other way. Not everyone feels that way, but sounds like you might so buy away.
Some people will probably think this a strange thing for me to say, but I don't understand the hate for Steam in this case. I don't mind Steam - I enjoy it's features to a limited extent - and when Steam is provided as an advantage as opposed to a leash, I think it's a wonderful thing.

Case in point: Alan Wake. I actually bought it on DVD when it first came out. Then, when American Nightmare came out, I bought it on GOG, and bought the original with it because a few bucks more for a DRM-free version seemed like a fair deal.

Sure, I do wish they'd provided a Steam key as an optional feature so that I could have a crack at the achievements, but to be honest, I'm not throwing my milk around about it, and I'm almost certain that Steam will have American Nightmare on sale for a couple of euros in the Summer Sale, and I can pick it up then.

And if they don't, fuck it.
No Steam.

All of GoG's games are DRM free 100 %
Steam may offer 'advantages' to some people, but it's always a leash.

Anyway, as noted none of GOG's games have DRM.
Thankyou very, very much indeed. That`s made my day! i will defintely be purchasing this! Damn! GOG is GOOD! :)

p.s. Some kids actually got upset that it wasn`t Steamed?? Unreal. steam-forced or Steam only takes away from true gaming freedom. To get upset that a game is not steamed is like getting upset that you don`t have a chain around your neck when you want to go for a game of football in the park!

Ya a few people are essentially "No Steam = No sale" They will complain about all other DRM but have no problem with Steam.

Some people apparently really dig achievements and auto patching. Those seemed to be people's main objections.

If you are interested at all this was probably the biggest of the back and fourth on the issue.

I see, it`s worst than I thought. The brainwashing reliance on Steam runs deep. I could never understand achievements, it`s not as if you get a cash prize for getting them. It`s childish, like getting a gold star in the classroom. i`m an adult, i don`t need it. if I enjoy the game, I need nothing else.

I have no problem finding patches and installing. heck, I still manage to find Patches EASILY for games that are 10 years old within 2 minutes! I can also choose which patch I prefer. Also autopatching could be separate from the hamstringing of Steam.

Really being forced on the net for each new game and never really having the peace of mind that you can play wherever is not worth silly achievements or autopatching.

Sorry, i`m preaching again. thanks for your all of your help and link. :)
