It seems that you're using an outdated browser. Some things may not work as they should (or don't work at all).
We suggest you upgrade newer and better browser like: Chrome, Firefox, Internet Explorer or Opera

Dear GOG:
When you have downloads this big, could you guys push a torrent for it? Not only would it relieve some pressure from your servers but I'm sure it would go a bit faster too (though my regular downloads so far are moving right along).

Just a thought/suggestion.

I support the idea. Managers of the site probably will think it will encourage piracy, but I don't think there will be any difference.

The reason why I think torrent are better than classic downloads is that you can have a broken file, download only the missing pieces of that file and thanks to its hash nature you always have perfect files.

The downloader also hashes the file, and it does so in chunks of 10MB. It doesn't currently support hashing the extra content, but it does for the installers. The main benefit of using torrents would be lessening the stress on GOG's server, but the CDN they use does seem to be up to the task.
Some people do have trouble with the downloader though, but quite a few also have trouble with torrents, even legal ones, due to their ISPs

As I know this is a dubious subject to discuss

as many other more highly established membars have stated.

NVR EVR!

not only is it clearly illegal.

but I can tell you as a member who pays for like 100mbps for their network and who does not use gog galaxy.

it takes me mayb 1-2 minutes tops depending on what other stuff is running on my local network to download any installers from gog

and trust me if gog were having issues with their data load on their servers im sure we would have heard or actually noticed it.

torrenting btw does not mean faster download speeds always. if anything it just means more vulnerability if anything.

Err. it is not. Providing a torrent is only illegal if you use it to download illegal stuff. Humblebundle i.e. at least in the past provided torrent links as well for some huge downloads. I don't need them but torrent itself is just a method to download and in itself is not illegal.
