Every game I have played so far has had to be abandoned due to quite simply TOO MANY AI ships!

Even on difficulty level ONE with Lazy AI switched on, and defensive/passive AI styles chosen rather than aggressive styles I was on the receiving end of reprisal waves of up to FIFTY THOUSAND ships!
This number of ships against you would be quite simply impossible to win against IMO, and that's even WITHOUT the fact my computer just grinds to a halt and crashes at less than ONE TENTH of that number! So I cannot play this game, AT ALL, for both technical and difficulty reasons! And that's even after I fully updated the game and fixed the "out of memory" problem!

The latest game has just come to a total stop whilst trying to run research redirector and sensor hacks which has resulted in the AI spawning a reprisal wave of over FIVE THOUSAND LEVEL IV RAIDERS STARSHIPS! 3000 it sent to the system the hackers are in, 2000 to a neighbouring system under my control. FIVE THOUSAND?!!!!! I'M ONLY ALLOWED BARELY A DOZEN OF THESE!!!!! The AI progress is only at about 460 and the difficulty level is only 4! I mean WTF?!!!!!!! This is just bullshit to be brutally honest!

Needless to say my computer instantly dropped to 4 seconds per frame, yes seconds per frame NOT frames per second, and then hung. I don't even see the point of reloading the game as the same thing will surely happen again. And what's the point even of starting a new game if the same kind of 6 trillion ships vs your 1000 or so situation is going to arise again?

This is ruining what otherwise seems a wonderful game!

I wouldn't mind if there was a cheat to "remove ALL enemy ships" from a system - I'd be FORCED to use it not just to even have a hope of winning, but to be able to keep the game actually running!!!!! But despite there being almost every other cheat imagingable, "remove all enemy ships" is not one of them! PS/ And I mean "all SHIPS", not the enemy stations and research centres that I want to hack, no point in those vanishing too!

Anyone got any ideas how this game can actually be made even remotely feasable again?

What settings are you using and how high do you let the AIP get to? Also, do you let your Hacking points go negative?

Letting AIP grow too much and you will be facing hordes of high mark enemies, even at the lowest possible difficulty settings. Going into negative Hacking points will also make the AI become much more aggressive than the setting would otherwise let you believe.

In general, you're NOT supposed to conquer an entire 40-star map (though that is manageable at lower difficulties if you keep Hacking and AIP under control), let alone any of the larger ones. You're supposed to only take the systems that are vital to your overall strategy of defeating the 2 AI homeworlds, using hacks to get the important stuff that isn't close to your main systems.

Also, using a Low ship cap could help with the memory issues you seem to have.

This is wonderful, could you please upload your save? I have to see this for myself.

I have to wonder, are you playing this like a Total War game? (Indeed, I wonder if AI War can be made to play like a "I don't care how the game is designed, I want to conquer every planet" kind of thing)

The AIP was about 460 and the hacking points still in the 300's..... they went nowhere near negative during the research redirect hack that seemed to spawn the 5000 MkIV Raider Starships!

The game that was giving me 50k reprisal waves was a now abandoned one, which the AIP had hit 1200! :D

PS/ No way I'm using a low ship cap when the AI has 3,000,000,000 ships! :D I'm gonna cheat me 4,000,000,000 ships!!!!! And like it!
..... as long as my PC doesn't croak..... x_x

The savegame I've got is just before I begun the hacking attempt that spawned the 5000 MkIV raiders. I couldn't save it in the middle of it - my PC went up da shitter! :D
The 50k waves were in another long abandoned and long gone game!

Don't get me wrong I don't mind 50,000 ships. As long as I can have the same, and have a jolly good mega-pew-pew! Without the PC dying on me! :D Lots of fun that would be! And why not conquer all the systems - that's what they there for! :D

They should have put cap limits in for the AI ships as well - for us poor people with poor PCs! :(

Low ship cap affects both you and the AI. Also note that with a lower ship cap each individual ship gets stronger.
I know this thread is a month old, but in case you still care for an answer...bear in mind that I haven't played in a while, so my memory of the finer details are fuzzy.

The AIP was about 460 and the hacking points still in the 300's..... they went nowhere near negative during the research redirect hack that seemed to spawn the 5000 MkIV Raider Starships!
How many times did you hack before? Your overall use of hacking points over the whole game also raises the response.

the AIP had hit 1200! :D
Don't do that.

PS/ No way I'm using a low ship cap when the AI has 3,000,000,000 ships! :D
Oh, that's entirely possible if you use the SuperTerminal and look away for a critical few seconds. After a minute or two, Hacking Points plummet and if you're not being careful enough to shoot it before it hits negative, you're suddenly looking at a few million ships due.

I never got to see the climactic finale of 4.5M with the standard ship cap, since my computer crashed.

Don't get me wrong I don't mind 50,000 ships. As long as I can have the same, and have a jolly good mega-pew-pew!
It's AI war. You will never have the same.

The concept behind the game (per the intro, and as your experience shows, in game) is that you're always extremely underpowered compared to the AI. Every benefit you obtain comes with a cost, and weighting your cost and benefits is the game.

Also, as for your remove ALL enemy ships from a system, there is such a mechanic and it's not even cheating. It's called a nuclear warhead.
