equick1: Thanks for posting this, was really concerned about the missing stuff between the Steam and GoG versions. Glad my money wasn't poorly spent.

takezodunmer2005: Fuck off gog users! This is precisely what they're saying to us... it's 2019 and STILL no modding tools!
avatar
equick1: It doesn't seem like they're completely throwing GoG off, but you have to consider they're a small indie studio that got assistance from Steam for the modding tools and online mode integration. It's not that the features are permanent to Steam but it's clear that the programming involved requires some reworking in order for things to work for GoG, especially if you're not using GoG Galaxy. Steam is also a bigger platform with more sales numbers, so it's no wonder they're focusing on that platform then letting those that want a DRM free copy to wait when there's so many fewer of us.

tl;dr, I don't think Gears For Breakfast or their discord mods are lying to us or throwing us by the wayside, given their responses. Patience is a virture.
Patience isn't a virtue in this case. We've been duped.
Welp, we got all the DLCs, but not all *complete* DLCs. I appreciate the price cut, but having a "where's multiplayer on gog" question in their faq, which links to another post that basically answers "we excluded gog buyers for the sake of including everybody" kinda makes me think they don't care.

Seems so :/

I went to the GfB website to check if the steam version came to exist, and GOG isn't even mentioned on the website, just Steam and its Workshop, along with the steam-only collector's box.

Excluding in the name of inclusion.
Holy pisstake, Batman!

Even more insulting is this in their faq section!

To Make New Maps or Mods:

Download the A Hat in Time - Modding Tools. They can be found in the "Tools" section of Steam, or as a separate app on GoG. (Note: The modding tools are not needed to play mods, only to create mods).

Launch the modding tools.

Click "New Mod" to create your mod package.
Launch the editor by clicking "Launch Editor". Inside the editor, you can create new maps, assets, and similar.
If you're looking to create a Purple Time Rift, click File -> New Map, and select the Purple Time Rift template. If the template doesn't show up, try restarting the editor.

So where are the separate apps!?

I know it doesn't undo the lack of multiplayer and mods, but the game just got updated with the latest Steam patches, so at least we have all the fixes and improvements in the GOG version now.
Holy shit it's awesome! I don't really care about the multiplayer or mods. I'm just glad we got all the other main game and dlc fixes.

Btw did it always have achievements or was that just added in the update?
No idea about the achievements, since I only bought the game after the patch was released. But the entry in my GOG library shows 23% "All players average" for achievements.

Maybe achievements weren't in the game the last time you played and they added them at some point along the way?

There was always achievements, but something broke them and you could no longer unlock in game after some point.

Do the achievements works now? Has anyone tried to unlock any of them?

I unlocked 3 achievements on 17 September before I got sidetracked with other games (I had played AHiT before on Steam, so I chose to focus on a couple of new game releases for the time being). I'll try to play a little more when I find the time and I'll let you know if the game stops unlocking achievements for me at some point.

EDIT: lol, I just started up the game real quick because I figured the "360 no-feet" achievement should be easy to get. So I tried it and it doesn't unlock. I have no idea at this point whether it's just this achievement that's borked or if maybe my game has already encountered a bug that prevents me from getting ANY further achievements in this save. If I see any changes, I'll keep you folks informed.

EDIT2: Ok, the situation seems to be slightly weirder than I thought. After failing to get the "360 no-feet" achievement and writing about it in this post, I started the game back up again. Then I did the flip again and the achievement unlocked.... So I tried going for the "Vacuum Vandal" achievement as well and that one didn't unlock. I exited the game, started it back up again, jumped on the vacuum robot again and the achievement unlocked... I have no explanation for why the "360 no-feet" achievement didn't unlock the first time, but finally unlocking that achievement and then failing to unlock the "Vacuum Vandal" achievement until I had restarted the game might be a sign that whenever you unlock an achievement in the game, the game somehow blocks you from unlocking any further achievements until it's restarted. That's just a hypothesis at this point, though.

Thank you for the tests. Now that you've pointed out this very strange behavior of the achievements, I'm reminded that exactly this bug has been reported in the past.
And I found a thread where it was discussed: https://www.gog.com/forum/a_hat_in_time/only_1_achivement_per_session

If you have Discord could you try contacting the developers to see if they can fix the bug once and for all? They should be active and I could help, but I don't have the game, so it would need someone who could possibly test the fixes.

Errrm.... I gotta be honest, I kinda don't want to get in their hair again.

Normally I'd love to help you with this, but I already feel like I pushed them as far as I could back when I argued with them to get the game updated. Like, if I re-joined the Discord now and went "thanks for updating the game, now let me whine some more about the achievements", I think that wouldn't be very helpful to our cause and it would be kinda mortifying for me (I have a hard time arguing with or putting pressure on people). I'm also not sure they would even consider looking into the GOG build again, seeing as it's called "GoG final" and all...

I'm really sorry I can't help you with that :(

But maybe someone else in this thread could help you with this? Or maybe try asking someone in the missing achievements thread? Or you can send me a PM with your email and I could gift you the game so you can check on the situation with the devs yourself?

No problem, I didn't know you had already contacted them about the missing updates, and I guess it was tiring since they hadn't moved all this time.

I'd like to try to take care of it myself as soon as possible, because as you say they probably won't come back to deal with the GOG version again in the future and it would be a shame for this game.

Thank you very much for the offer, but maybe I can contact them and fix the problem even without having to own the game if I clearly point out the bug, also because I don't want to make you buy the game for me again at full price just to fix this bug.
