I just found the discord they have set up for people to ask questions and all that, and asked about the GOG version. The included screenshots show the conversation we had. So no need to worry, the GOG version isn't being abandoned or mistreated or anything like that. All we have to do is be patient.

Please, feel free to spread these screenshots and info around when you see people ask about this. I see a lot of people concerned for the fate of the GOG version of A Hat in Time but nobody ever knows what's going on with it. Now we know!

EDIT: Screenshots are now available in an imgur album for easier sharing, for those interested: https://imgur.com/a/lHIpB

Good to know they didn't forget GOG.
Thanks for the info!
Glad to hear it. By the way, GOG can deliver patches as fast as steam. I.e.: Divinity Original Sin 2. When my friend on steam says he got an update, I get the update at the same time too.

So it is possible.

I for one am holding out for the mod tools, because fuck steam if I have a better choice!
Maybe they haven't forgotten GOG, but the updates could take awhile...

https://support.hatintime.com/hc/en-us/articles/115003332814-When-does-GoG-receive-A-Hat-in-Time-updates-

I'll purchase it when the updates and everything come.
Thanks for this! I was really worried after I just bought it and saw that steam workshop was being used for mods.
Certainly took a while.
But hey, now I have the perfect excuse to play a whole new file.
OK, I won't remove it from my wishlist yet then.
I'd like to try Hat in Time, but I'd like to be able to have some of the mods and level editor features that the Steam version. I'm tempted to get the GOG version, though, since this is the first time I've seen it on sale. Forgive me for being skeptical, but is there any other way to confirm that came from the devs? (I'm not familiar with Discord)

Regarding it 'going out of beta,' is that in reference to Hat in Time, or GOG Galaxy? Is there also any idea of when it might be available? I'm wondering if it would be better to wait to see if it goes on sale on Steam and get it there.

Did you see that this URL was linked to? I cannot see any way for users to submit their own answers to that site, so unless the hatintime.com domain is a fake it's about as from the devs as it can be.

I missed that link. Sorry about that.

I might still hold off and grab the Steam version, only because I'm curious about trying out the level editor and I don't know if I want to wait to see how it will be until they're out of beta.

Out of curiosity, has anyone played the Steam version and tried out the level editor? Is it easy to use, or does it have any issues?
Fuck off gog users! This is precisely what they're saying to us... it's 2019 and STILL no modding tools!
Thanks for posting this, was really concerned about the missing stuff between the Steam and GoG versions. Glad my money wasn't poorly spent.

It doesn't seem like they're completely throwing GoG off, but you have to consider they're a small indie studio that got assistance from Steam for the modding tools and online mode integration. It's not that the features are permanent to Steam but it's clear that the programming involved requires some reworking in order for things to work for GoG, especially if you're not using GoG Galaxy. Steam is also a bigger platform with more sales numbers, so it's no wonder they're focusing on that platform then letting those that want a DRM free copy to wait when there's so many fewer of us.

tl;dr, I don't think Gears For Breakfast or their discord mods are lying to us or throwing us by the wayside, given their responses. Patience is a virture.

True, but they have been stringing this along for 2 years now, I'm also going by this; from their store page:

Community-funded, community-focused
A Hat in Time was successfully funded on Kickstarter, reaching nearly 10 times its goal! In order to celebrate our community, A Hat in Time is releasing with full modding, an in-game screenshot mode, and more!

I bought this game for it's modding capabilities as well as the goofy adventure, though I do hope you're right and they finally bring it out one day, but my cynicism is too strong for gaming companies...
