I played this when it first came out - just a completely immersive, mind-controlling game. A unique experience for it's time. Even now, just staring at the picture of the Ranger Center takes me back to a very special, warm place.
I am buying it, but not sure if I can really ever go back to that place again. Yes, it has spawned the Fallout series, and I'm sure it has more than slightly inspired the Stalker, Metro 2033 series, and others....but methinks those games will make me keep Wasteland where it belongs - fixed in my mind as one of the greatest gaming experiences ever.
I don't want to boot it up to realize that yes, the interface was/is beyond clunky, that the combat is flawed, that ...well, u get the idea. Hard to go back, almost impossible to convince new gamers to try something that looks like this.
Their loss. I'll always know where this game took me, and I'm a much better gamer for the experience.
In truth, there are certain titles that define 'classic' pc gaming. Along with the Ultimas, Wizardry, Starflights and M&Ms, GoG has now pretty much earned their name with the addition of this legendary title.
