Fun dungeon romp

Early review. It's a simple endless dungeon but the pathfinder system makes it a lot of fun. There's no time limits, unlike in the main campaign, which meant I could spend all the time I wanted. Resting is with camp supplies as usual but you get a free rest every time you descend another level. No slow backtracking either, stairs going up bring you to the outside world immediately. Every level is different, there's several art styles that usually indicate the specialty of the level: lots of lightning, or acid and you know what's coming. At level 28 down I still see new enemies. I played on easy for a first try with a cheese party (5 monks, 1 cleric) and it's hilarious. I haven't encountered any game-breaking bugs, but I'm not seeing any new items in the shops even though after defeating some special enemy I got a popup that the shop sold better items. You find some good stuff in the dungeon, but make sure someone specializes in trickery to open chests. I hope to see some small improvements in future patches: the shops needs to sell better items. A class/build templating system could be very useful if you restart often. The rewards for restarting with a new party seem pretty underwhelming so far. All in all, this is very relaxing to play. I don't like time limits so this is perfect for me. The dungeon levels are not very big so it's easy to play a bit in between work/life stuff.

Excellent mini game

No time limit, no kingdom management, just raw dungeon crawling, loot hoarding and level building - good mindless fun away from the main campaign Great setup to test different builds - my usual party wasn't cutting it with the golems so tried an ******** build and surprise surprise founds an effective way to bring em down. You'll start to accumulate a lot of cash after a while so you can "buy" new builds to try out. The beginning was a bit hard without enough cash to build the party.

Great game wt a few problems.

I love this game, it has a few problems. There is not an NPC healer near the ruins, what if you do not have a healer in your party? fixing some of the inflictions is problematic. Doors are hard to see in the dungeons, I hope that is fixed in the sequel.

Pure addiction, hours will fly by

After beating the main campaign I thought to give this DLC a try to just "test a few builds". Unbeknownst to me, hours would fly by as I tinker and change builds, composition and stats to get IT just right. It also helps you can toggle Last Azlanti and PCs level up very quickly; getting me to higher levels quicker. This DLC is great for passing time whilst playing pure D&D dungeon crawling, you can learn new mechanics and intricacies about your builds and free to experiment however you want. There is a self-contained story in this DLC, which basically surmises to "kill these evil adventurers", but the main point is dungeon crawling, so if you're looking for a narrative to fixate onto you should be aware this DLC is 100% combat orientated. Learning and having fun is the key here and eventually I'll return to the main campaign on higher difficulties with optimised builds and composition and I cannot wait. I can't recommend this DLC enough as it's just so great having a full custom party exploring randomly generated rooms with some roguelite elements.

Okay addition to the game. 3 stars

I did not play the standalone, as it does not appeal to someone like me. Fortunately the main game gets a smaller version of the dungeon (including its big bad), which is the one I review here. The story is simple and straight forward, almost like an after-thought, but passable - I enjoyed it for what it had to offer. It's not very involved however, and is mostly told by the items you come across in the dungeon - left behind by those who came before you and ended up succumbing to the ancient evil sleeping in it. If you're not the kind of guy who reads the description found on items you find, then you won't really notice a story at all. Maybe that's okay. Some folks just want to have more heads to bash, and this dungeon offers that. The dungeon consists of 16 floors, split into 4 parts that are gated behind chapters. In chapter 2 you can only do up to, and including, 4th floor. After that you have to wait till next chapter etc. Once floors are cleared you will face the final boss. The encounters themselves are a mixed bag; some are empty filler in typical owlcat fashion, others are interesting. Nothing difficult if you know your way around the pathfinder system - stack buffs on top of buffs and everything will die. At times can be frustrating, and there's a bit of a learning curve. The items sold by the npc's as well as the ones you find in the game expand your choices a little bit. The dungeon loot is okay, but nothing to write home about outside of final boss. If you're more into story, this is a safe skip, as there is no dialogue or banter regarding the dungeon. It also lacks character compared to things like Durlag's tower, as it's just repeat of same rooms that are then slightly rearranged. If you don't like main game, but like the system you can play standalone and you'll get your money's worth there I suppose. I completed this once, and never really bothered on subsequent runs, that's how forgettable it is.
