Fun but flawed

This game merges a multitude of elements to produce a game that is decent in every respect but excells at none. The politic system is fun and may at times have you pacing around your room considering the consequenses of your impending decision, while at other times it feels completely arbitrary. The RTS component is initially irritating until you get the hang of it, then it's fun for a while to then becoming something you tire of an try to avoid .The two things that I enjoyed the most with Divinity:Dragon Commander are the interactions you have with the characters aboard the raven and resource managment on the strategic worldmap. The character interactions mostly came down to choosing between two options, one clerly right and one clearly wrong, but it was still interesting to hear the well voiceacted reactions from your crew. The world map strategy I found engaging and required some thought. "Do I spend my money to buy some new facilities or do I buy more soldiers to reinforce a region which might be attacked in a few turns. Unfortunately the game can be quite easily exploited thus nulifing any challange you may encounter at the later chapters of the game. After all is said and done Divinity: Dragon commander is a very decent game, none of it's systems are great nor are they terrible. It mixes grand strategy with Real-time strategy and some light politic systems. If you have a weekend to kill this is a unique concept that is quite enjoyable.

Disappointing

You're a general who can turn into a dragon - how is this not amazing? Sadly by doing so in a fairly rubbish 'tactical' mini game that serves as a Zerg rush simulator and little else - which is positively criminal given how beautiful the strategic game can be and how utterly glorious the princesses and the councillors are. I just wish a little of the obvious love spent on them had been invested in the actual tactical side of things.

Amazing world, boring game.

The world is interesting the advisors are amazing and I wanted to keep on playing to learn more and discover he effects of your decisions. The entire world around the central game is amazing. Unfortunately the central game is terrible. I dreaded having to play each battle, to spend another 10-20 minutes to play one of the most dumbed down version of a traditional RTS i have ever played.

Fun game, 4X light

Dragon Commander is a game thats hard to classify into any one genre. There's a turn based Civilization-like or Total War-like element, an RPG-like element, an RTS-like element, and a card game. At first glance, these should mix like oil and water. But DC pulls it off in a fun, enjoyable way. The RTS potion of the game is its weakest point, and games on large maps can drag on in a 1 step forward 2 steps back feel. I wish the game had gotten an expansion or DLC though. I've dropped a good 90 hours into this game on Steam. Cross my fingers that a sequel fits into Larians plans at some point.
