It could have been so much better

Simply put, a pretty game that is almost no fun to play Pros: Nice 3D / 2D graphic style - transitioning between them is smooth Music and sound design is very good indeed. Some really good elements like the sonar ping effects, compass and grapple docking, very polished and satisfying The combat is ok-ish Your choice of controls - with persistence you can rebind things, some issues with this menu too Cons: Controls are sooo bad , so very bad, Tried keyboard/mouse, controller and final HOTAS stick. I jump between joystick (for 3D) and mouse (for 2D) now. Getting around in 2D areas is frustrating. Story is weak, characters are weak and undeveloped, you have no attachment to the people in game. A few too many graphic glitches for a full release game - camera gets stuck in environment, screen shudders, occaisional frame rate drops. The map is next to useless - at no time do you know where you are in the world. Grind, grind and more grind from the very start, collect everything and sell it. Crew management and skills offers little, if any, benefit Gameplay gets tedious and repetitive very quickly This is another case of a game with some good ideas and a couple of cool mechanics (the grapple dock is one) that needs the benefit of polishing through an Early Access / beta phase. This is not really good enough for full release.

Should be good, ended up medicore

Very interesting aesthetics, well bulit mood... and that's about it. Good things: Decent background story Nice 2D graphics style Good sound design/music Bad things: Graphics effects makes everything messy and difficult to see what is actually happening. Controls are far from comfortable (rebinding doesn't really help) Poor navigation/map - you'll get lost a lot Maybe future patches will solve some of the issues, but unfortunatelly not the first impression. :|

It WAS a good game...

I'm probably one of the few who isn't impressed by the ReSubmerged update. Yes, it's made the game a lot prettier, but it's introduced 36 officially recognised MAJOR bugs (some of them gamebreaking) and it removed the interesting Oxygen and Food mechanic. It's like that meme, "Upgrade, upgrade, GO BACK!!!" But we can't go back... :(

Broken + abandoned by devs

Pros: + interesting setting + I really like the visuals + I was very excited about a new entry into the space(or in this case sub-)sim+trading+exploration-genre I've been in love with since Privateer. Cons: ---- The current version ("resubmerged") has a list of partly gamebreaking bugs, which has even been acknowledged by the devs, who than failed to do anythign about it since 2018. For example, your money and loot in the inventory might simply disappear on saving. Or you might encounter merchants wher you can sell your loot without them ever taking it for infinite money (which might then disappear again randomly) take the joy out of a game centred on working for your next cool ship-upgrade). Also, in that update they took away interesting survival-lite mechanics like air and food. You can revert to the pre-resubmerged-version, but that comes at the cost of plain ugliness in some gameparts and a godawful checkpoint-based save system which in combination with randomly spawning enemies which can shoot at you even when you're docked at a station becomes increasingly frustrating. On my last try to enjoy this game I lost a whole hour of careful exploration, because by the time I had exited the dialog and undocked I was left with just 2 measly hitpoints and an incoming torpedo that hit me before I could even get the throttle up. The saddest part is a game with so much potential just being abandoned by the devs in an extremely frustrating state. Don't (haha) sink your money in this sub. :-(

Pearl that you need to let grow on you

first, I must admit: after half an hour of playing, I was ready to turn away from this game. It is pretty unforgiving at the start, especially with its rather strange navigation system, very limited air supply and almost no guidance. However, many people said to give it a chance, and whoa, they were right. In Diluvion, you pilot a submarine through often dark and dangerous waters. The interface is in 3rd person 3D with a bunch of different control schemes and lots of configuration options that leave nothing to be desired. When you dock, location interiors are rendered in hand-drawn 2D with a distinct style that is probably a matter of taste. I found it fitting the game's mood pretty well. My initial disappointment with Diluvion mainly came from the fact that these days, I used to be spoon-fed with quests and directional markers. Here, when you are told to "find" something, you better be prepared to really search for it! However, it is never unfair. You are usually given enough directions; following them, on the other hand, takes some getting used to. The navigation system is based on landmarks. Once you got a map, they get entered there. You never see your own position on that map though, but you can see the direction and rough distance to your known landmarks. You can navigate surprisingly precisely with this scheme once you discovered enough landmarks. This way, the game rewards exploration in a very tangible way. Other than the quest line you follow, Diluvion seems to be a game of exploration. There is a sense of accomplishment reaching the dark, mysterious floor of a seemingly bottomless pit, and there are intriguing, dangerous and outright surprising things hidden there - much more even than the memorable "Yamamoto Crab". There is a certain amount of grind in Diluvion, when you are working for new equipment for example, but so far this has not bothered me. I am looking forward to many more interesting finds in the deep.
