This game looks amazing and would be kinda cool, but this version is unplayable.
There is mouse filtering you can't get rid of - you're not going to hit any moving target.
There is no proper gamepad support if you want to go that route either.
You have to dig through .ini files to change the sensitivity to something reasonable, disable vsync, change the field of view, basically anything - and then create a new profile, wiping your saves, for half of the changes to apply.
NOTHING has been done to make this a good experience. I honestly, no joke wish they just sent you a ROM for you to emulate instead, because I could at least get a gamepad to work properly.
Such a shame.
Real treat to play. Had a pirated version on my pc, but got a hard copy for ps2 so I didnt feel like a criminal. Now that its on GOG again I had to get it again. Can't wait for the remake.
Now if only we could get No One Lives Forever and Timesplitters on here I'd be a happy camper.
Embark on an engrossing journey as a man races against time in order to clear his name as the killer of the president of the United States! Featuring cel-shaded graphics that was faithful to it's comic book source material. The games graphics have aged wonderfully with it's thick comic book lines and multi-pane illustrated animations. Also, the mouse controls eliminate all the lag issues that the console versions had and the multiplayer rcan still be played offline with bots or through local LAN. All in all, do not hesitate to give this a game a go. I still have my original PC copy with me from my high school days and I'm sure to buy again soon.
XIII is a plot heavy game, and it's where they put the most emphasis on, so gameplay stays in background. I don't say this in a bad way though, It just doesn't shine as much as it's unique style and great plot, but it still has extremely good pacing and has some engaging moments that it'll just grab you and never let you go basically, thanks to the way plot is delivered and the way pacing goes. It's really gripping stuff.
One fault I'd say is the stealth system. Some levels are stealth mandatory and to make those levels difficult, they decided to keep checkpoints relatively few or completely absent from some of the levels, so some of those levels becomes trial and error and it may frustrate you at times. It could've been way better. And there's also the awful save system this game has. Now, XIII is a unique shooter, the way it's save system works is also pretty unique but in a bad way. It relies on checkpoints, which is perfectly fine, it's just that checkpoints are pretty rare or like I said, completely absent from some of the levels. And the way they work is terrible, whenever you get to a checkpoint, you have to quick save to save that checkpoint, or save it from the menu, otherwise, when you don't save at all and just rely on the checkpoints without saving manually, you'll notice that when you start the game that checkpoint save will not be there, so, never forget to either quicksave the checkpoints, or save the checkpoints from the menu.
Apart from those annoyances, there's really not much fault to this game. Presentation still mostly holds up to this day, it's a great looking and sounding game with beefy gun sounds, good voice acting and an amazing jazz soundtrack which dynamically adapts to your gameplay. It just screams quality and uniqueness that it's really surprising how this game became so underrated really. Definitely worth the buy I'd say.
