Story

The world may be going to hell, but Riley's worries extend beyond that.

3 months ago Riley's Sister applied for a job with the Osiris Initiative, the world leader in medical technology. Despite initially having a way to contact her, daily communications have ceased. Something isn't right.

Attempting to locate her sister by using connections at her job, Riley is fired for gross misconduct with no answers.

Applying to be a test subject with the Osiris Initiative, Riley hopes to gain information on the illusive organisation and ultimately find her sister.

That is... if the experiment is as safe as they said.

Gameplay

Combining two beloved genres, first person horror with third person adventure, We Are Not Alone creates a new sense of suspense with its unique camera mechanic.

Looking through the camera allows safe exploration, as the creature can not meet your gaze.

Placing the camera down though, is essential to solving puzzles with both hands, yet it will leave you vulnerable.

Features

  • Explore the vast complex, unlock the secrets of the experiment and ultimately attempt to escape with your life.
  • Solve puzzles using items found throughout your isolation.
  • Encounter a long lost piece of civilisation... that may not be so civil.
  • Use the camera to explore in first person and place it down to solve puzzles in third person.
  • Multiple endings based on player choices

Better Than You Might Think

I played the demo of this game last summer and bought the full version on launch day :) Despite some flaws, this 4-5 hour low-budget game is a lot better than you might think. A lot of this is because of the game's surprisingly gripping and intriguing story - but I don't want to spoil it here. Although it is mostly a "point and click" puzzle/exploration game, there are also some brief occasional "run and hide" survival horror segments too. The "camera" thing is an innovative - if occasionally contrived - mechanic and the game's pacing is also surprisingly good as well. The relatively small "game world" probably helps with all of this. It feels like a focused game, with no "bloat" or anything superfluous. The horror elements are "medium-strength" - it's scary but it probably won't give you insomnia. And, whilst it takes inspiration from "Outlast" and "Resident Evil", it is also very much its own unique thing at the same time. Seriously, I loved the personality and atmosphere of this game :) As for downsides, the launch-day version had some bugs/glitches (of varying seriousness) but I had so much fun that I didn't regret playing the game. The developer is active on the forums here, so these bugs will probably be patched at some point. Also, given how heavily the story relies on mystery, I don't know how replayable the game is once you know what is going on and what the puzzle solutions are. The game's minimum system requirements seem to be over-stated too (At "low" settings, without "bloom" or anything, it ran at a playable speed on Intel HD 2500 graphics and an i5-3570...). But, despite these flaws, the story, pacing and atmosphere were really good. The gameplay is fairly enjoyable as well. This is a unique game :) I'd give it a score of 4/5

Interesting story but too easy

The game has a very interesting story and the switch between first and third person is a nice touch. However, all the puzzles are very easy, since there are never many places you can go to at any given time and all the necessary items are usually close to where you have to use them.

We are not Alone

Usually I don't care much for point and click games but the fact that this has free movement segments definately makes it more playable. The story's good and puzzle sections weren't frustratingly difficult making it an enjoyable game on the whole... I'd recommend it for sure.

Janky, but interesting story.

I don't want to be too harsh on this game, It seems to have been made with a very small team. The jank is real on this one, I had trouble just trying to remap the movement controls, which didn't seem to work and didn't hold between game start ups anyway. So hope you like WASD and if not.. well tough. Luckily the game isn't action heavy and half the time you're in point/click 3rd person anyway. The voice over sounds like it was recorded on desk mics, The game also is on rails. There is very little if anything you can do out of order so you don't have much agency in the game you do get a few choices to make, and it has at least 2 endings. If you can look past this though the story was interesting, you don't get a definitive ending, it seems like there is going to be a sequel.

Too many problems

Can't rebind (who uses 'c' to crouch?). No hold to sprint. Piss-poor save system. Runs like a dog with or without forced v-sync.
