An old classic game being resurcced!
This game is such a classic! One of my first introductions to Warhammer Fantasy - pretty much total war before total war was a thing. However, there are some key differences: this is much more about building up a smaller mercenary force, the legendary Grudgebringers, than controlling a whole army for a nation or state. You start off small with a cannon, cav and inf - later on you get wizards, archers and the like. Some regiments and heroes you meet can be added permanently, while others are for only one mission. Having played the gog version i gotta say they really did a good amount of work to make it work on modern systems. However, the controls can be wonky - just as they where back in the day. For instance the arrow keys for up and down dont control the camera to go up and down around the map - no, those keys control the zoom level. Its a bit strange when coming back it it after all these year. Also by default the cursor cannot be seen because cursor color is set to "off" in the options. Good advice: go to the options once you start up the game the first time and set it to on. It wille make it easier to see where you cursor is, and thus making it more enjoyable for playing the game. it would also be amazing if gog could make WASD for the camera controls - or at least make it so that the mouse wheel can control the zoom levels instead.

Awesome game finally on GOG
Saw this being launched a few mins ago and couldn't resist - I love Dark Omen. As a child, I had a demo of it for the first Playstation. Enjoyed it a lot and played as a teenager and student the full game on PC numerous times. It's 2025 now and I have a modern Nvidia card, but I still prefer this to modern strategy games! :-) + It has great strategic gameplay. Place your army wisely on the battlefield initially and micro-manage it well during the battle. Upgrade your army between battles and equip it with the items you find. + The story is quite nice. It's being told via short dialogues between the battles and even has some quite good animated videos. The voice acting both during these dialogues and during actual battles as well as the soundtrack and sound effects are really good. The game even let's the player sometimes decide between two options how to proceed, like either defending a place or continue going, where the player's choice will always have consequences. + The game was released in 1998, but the graphics are still nice and lovely. I never encountered any bug while playing it during the last 27 years. + Overall, the devs put a lot of love for details into this, leading to a very atmospheric and immersive experience in the fantasy universe of Warhammer. I've played the first couple of missions in the GOG-version now. Had a problem with the keyboard not working when first opening it, but since the second start its working. Had to set the resolution manually in the INI. Going to desktop via ALT+TAB / Windows key caused problems, so I just avoid it. Besides that, everything works like a charm - and that on Win 11 and a widescreen - although the game doesn't make use of the full wide screen, that would be really the cherry on the top. My tips for playing: 1) Troops are precious, try to lose as little as possible. Sometimes regiments will only join you temporarily and their loss doesn't matter so much. 2) Sniping with canons and mortars is super powerful. Take care of friendly fire! Same goes for archers and crossbows. Many battles can be won mainly or even entirely via ranged weapons and spells of your mage(s). 3) Set on fire windmills, churches, and buildings with coloured smoke coming from their chimney, they will often drop items of which some are very powerful. If you're unsure about a building, just set it on fire via one of the fire mage spells / canon and see what happens. 4) There are some missions which are significantly easier when the fire mage can warp over the map, not only to attack but also to trigger enemies to start moving. If he doesn't have that spell in the mission, its worth loading a savegame at the finishing screen of the mission before and get again into the map till your mage got the spell. Finally, I would like to express my great gratitude to the devs, the actors involved, and GOG for giving us this gem of a game!

Increase graphics using dgVoodoo
To play Dark Omen in higher screen resolutions, with improved graphics and Alt Tab window fix, use the dgVoodoo Control Panel found in C:\Program Files (x86)\GOG Galaxy\Games\Warhammer Dark Omen\PRG_ENG Any problems with slowness or lag, then tick the dgvoodoo DirectX -> Fast Video Memory Access option. If your keyboard isn't recognised, then use USB2 not USB3 port. Follow the Dark Omen forum & its YouTube GOG install help guide for the dgvoodoo settings and mod pack (new campaigns, maps, armies and extreme camera zoom out). Join the Dark Omen Forum community Discord channel for multiplayer fun via GameRanger. Thank you gog you have done a great job.

Finally,finally,finally!
I've been waiting for this game to come on GOG for probably 12-15 years. It's FINALLY here! For me it's a classic. I used to play it on PSX and always wondered about the PC version. Currently, having a problem with the resolution,I can't seem to get the game in anything close to 1920x but it's launch day and hopefully there will be some corrections. Edit: Game runs great now!
