Very Solid Game

This is if Spore met a boomer shooter with Spyro the Dragon art. The creature collection, control and evolutions add a good amount of fun variety to this game. Character controls are extremely polished, I've played for about 3 hours or so and have had zero problems with stuttering, lagging or bugs. The platforming is very tight and easy to control, along with the action. Definitely recommend. Update after about 8 hours of play: Still loving it, they did a great job making all of the varied creature play unique and exciting. My girlfriend also really loves it, we both played over the weekend, still ran into zero issues or bugs. Good job devs. This definitely feels like a new age Spyro game with a host of evolution and combat features. Don't be like "Wolfy777" who reviewed this game like it should be a pokemon clone, it is not that in any shape or form. If you want to play one of the 1,000 pokemon clones or mods then do that.

An excellent little shooter/slasher!

I know what you're thinking: Space Pokémon? While you do collect eggs and hatch creatures (and eventually launch a breeding program to turn your favourite space critter into a floating, waddling or bouncing warcrime), at it's core it's an action game, with emphasis on shooting and dodging and finding particularly effective/game breaking ability combos. Difficulty is selectable, so even old folks like myself can enjoy the fireworks show. Levels are either wave attacks or exploratory with a big boss at the end. Late game, you unlock a "randomized dungeon" type endless mission where you can extract at specific points, bringing home the goodies you looted, or go deeper with ever increasing difficulty and the lure of more and better loot. There's secret collectables, hidden goodies all over the map, a metric crapton of possible creature evolutions, each with a special ability to unlock, and once you have the genetic editing unlocked, a "build-your-own-monster" construction kit. More fun than a barrel of monkey, pretty much bug free, colourful, decent graphics, nice soundtrack. Highly recommended and nice to see it on GOG.

It's Okayish

First off, the game runs smooth on ryzen 5, amd rx 9060 xt, 32gb ddr 4 ram, manjaro linux with proton, IF you choose the right .exe-file. ;-) graphic is the new UE Engine, and it looks a lot like a comic. don't expect realism here. Plot is sorta: theres this purple space cancer and some electrical yellow robots, which sucks planets life force away, humans can't do sheit against it, with bombs and weapons, but there are animal like creatures (voidlings) which can be connected to psychically and upgraded which are able to fight against the space cancer. humans do this from space while your voidling is transferred to the planets surface to fight. You control your little alien friend from a behind view, fighting mobs which sadly are either pre-spawned and radiate a comically alieness or spawn unrealistically in place where nothing was before, so much for immersion. you have either explorative levels with jumpnrun/platformer (and searching for resources) or wave-defending levels. - both with bosses at the end. your little friend(s - you can find eggs and breed more) can be upgraded, but only in between levels. the concept of Evolution really hits me in games, because of the random factor. Sadly this game will give you some of it, but not as in roguelikes on a constant basis. You can choose always between 2 mutagen-variants of your little friend depending on the voidling and available mutagens (i.e. fire element, cryo) and don't mix em, you sort of have to stay on a mutagen path, which is ... sad and unneccessary - bad design? with a little rpg-element you can upgrade it's attacks statistically (fire rate, damage i.e.) It didn't hit me with the urge to play constantly like 5 Star titles, but it's still solid. i didn't experience crashes except for the wrong .exe which was chosen automatically via lutris installer (visual c++ error message). To be fair, i first gave it 4 Stars because i thought i'd get more out of it, but it's evolution and upgrade system is way to small/basic to keep me attached for more than the 3 hours i put in, so i'll reduce to 3 Stars. The game _may_ get better for some, but for me it's a 3 of 5 as i won't get back into it anytime soon. As said, the game ain't bad, it just doesn't scratch my itch.

Excellent!

Only played for a short while, so this is first impressions... Love what I've played and can't wait to play some more, see what awaits me as I progress. Very well optimised and on Epic graphics, it looks gorgeous. Sound & Music are also great and set the atmosphere nicely. Decent gunplay and does get a little frantic at times, but that's half the fun right there, keeps you on your toes ;-). System specs, for anyone interested: Ryzen 9 9950X3D - 32GB RAM Radeon RX 9070 XT - 16GB Windows 11 Running game on SSD

Mediocre in every way

The game is neither good nor bad. Right now the content warrents less than 20h of playtime. MOnster evolution is fun at first until you notice it is useless because you just do it to unlock genes for the splicing machine (which lets you choose from all unlocked genes/parts/abilities). Leveling is useless after the first few hours because you get a training gym which lets you train your voidlings to full in 17 min (yes you have to wait). The core gameplay in itself is fun but lacking. Very rough around the edges, some minor bugs included. I would say it is okay for the pricetag, but theres better games out there.
