Tower of Time

This game is fun. It tries to mix real time combat with a pause with some dungeon exploration. It is not just another Diablo clone. What are the issues with the game. I spend over 50h and play on highest difficulty. Game is too long for what it is (I'm somewhere in the middle) and way too easy. Combat encounter are just boring and not challenging. The story that game tries to tell is just boring and a huge slog. Story asks me to make a choice from time to time but over long period of time they are few and far between. Game offers good variety of enemies in combat and forces to pay attention but combat is way to easy if you know how to combo stuff. Most of the fights I set my characters to auto attack and go get a tea (on highest difficulty).

PRO: - excellent music - visually beautiful - overall polished feel to it - interesting character abilities, if you're into the technical aspects of gameplay. - interesting items, if you're into the technical aspects of gameplay. - crashes every now and again, but saves frequently. doesn't feel too buggy for me otherwise. I play on debian GNU/linux. CON: - generic, trope-riddled story - the writing. dear god, the writing. both in cutscenes and ingame dialogue, the text makes me cringe twice every minute. the dialogue is stiff, heavy-handed and full of clumsy exposition. despite some effort on the game's behalf to make the characters individual, they all talk the same. not in an kind of way, but in an kind of way. for me this was the biggest concern, it took me out of the experience constantly. I continue to play for the gameplay, despite the story & dialogue. I received this for free. Had I payed 20 bucks myself, I'd probably award only 2/5.

....the combat system is extremely boring. It would be similar to Spellforce when using only heroes, but no, you don't get to fight on adventure map, your instead transported into an arena with multiple spawn points and mobs just come at you in waves,which leaves you with two amazing tactical options. Either split your team(faster, riskier) or wait for mobs to reach you in middle. Sometimes there will be additional objective like kill big boss or destroy spawning portals while killing waves of enemy, but idk i can't even fully explain why i find the combat so unsatisfying. Cleared the first floor and a half and completely lost interest to continue.
