A survival horror in Lovecraft's world

The Sinking City 2 is a third-person survival horror set in 1920s Arkham. Deliberate, tense, and resource-lean: pressure builds as you push deeper, relief comes in brief refuge, and fear is something you manage. Mind your inventory, take on unnerving puzzles, and double back via unlocked shortcuts for supplies and upgrades.

Arkham, New England

A Roaring ’20s port city buckling under a supernatural flood. Tide-stained avenues and battered Art Deco. Speakeasies gone dark. Districts feel lived-in and water-worn, with routes by foot and skiff, shortcuts behind collapsed seawalls, and secrets tucked in boarded parlors. You’ll navigate a hospital where science hides its face, a fish market where the merchandise bites back, and descend deep below the city to where eldritch horrors stir.

A rescue with impossible stakes

A ritual gone wrong trapped her soul in the Dreamlands, and now malevolent forces have stolen her body. To rescue the woman you love, you must walk a dangerous path through catastrophe to the source of the flood — her presence always felt, but rarely seen.

Fearsome foes

The Slither animate the dead. Deep Ones surge from dark water. Shadows bend space and test nerves. Some fights must be met head-on; others demand a retreat to rearm, retune your build, and return better prepared. Or take on an optional investigation and come back with an upgraded gun.

Investigate at will

Exploration is the key to survival. Read ritual residues, sift through grisly clues, decode journals that shouldn’t exist, and pry at masks that won’t come off. Optional cases never gate progress — but they unlock safer routes, hard supplies, and upgrades that change how you endure the next encounter.

Built with uncommon devotion

The Sinking City 2 draws on Frogwares’ detective roots to deliver survival horror that runs deep and hits hard. Shaped by studio obsession and community feedback, it’s a faithful Lovecraft experience: myths made manifest, and the inconceivable fear that results.

A huge dissapiontment

So, in all honesty, I can't recommend this game for any existing The Sinking City fan. I'm a massive fan of the first game. Really, The Sinking City ranks easily in the top 5, maybe even the top 3 of "Lovecraftian" games for me. I've got the game on Epic and even on Steam, just for the achievements. Hell, I've supported the Kickstarter with the physical collector's edition. But this game is a mockery of the original. A note for the developers: I appreciate your work, but if you really want to make a "Resident Evil", don't sully the legacy of "The Sinking City" with it. So first off, the good: The graphics, the artwork, the voice acting. The bad: Everything else. So where to start? After learning that this game was supposed to be more "combat focused" I was like, "Ok, still has huge potential." After playing and finishing the game, I have to say: The name is an obvious cash grab. This game has nothing in common with its predecessor. Where the first game was focused on solving cases and lore, this game has only combat. Bad combat. The developers clearly had the Resident Evil remakes as a blueprint but clearly couldn't replicate the feeling. The combat is bad, really bad. Maybe I'm just not good enough, but even after reducing the combat difficulty to the minimum, the combat encounters ruined the game for me. After completing the game for the first time, I tried the game on the hardest difficulty (... eldritch feats, ne game+... tell me you want Resident Evil without telling me... never mind)... are you florking serious? And it was a constant pain, without fun. Another point is the story. Honestly, the ending wasn't that bad, but everything else? A romance story with "lovecraftian" elements. I say lovecraftian in "" cause most lore aspects read as having a very, very surface level of knowledge about Lovecraft and his stories.

An ideological shot in one's own foot...

Studio Frogwares has always been known for well-crafted detective and adventure games. Just look at their Sherlock Holmes series - its main audience is Russian gamers. When the Russian-Ukrainian war began, the folks at Frogwares decided that all Russians are "garbage". They thought, "Let’s punish Russian gamers"! They stopped releasing Russian localizations for their games, even though, from an economic standpoint, that's basically shooting themselves in the foot and losing their core audience. Pure madness. But it seems like for Frogwares, ideological hatred matters more than profit. What a shame they don't understand one simple thing: gamers don't go to war and don't overthrow dictators. And there's nothing worse than mixing games with politics. Games should bring people together, not drive them apart even more. The war won't end faster just because you've denied Russian gamers localization. Unfortunately, all you've done is make things worse - for yourselves. :(
