I was surprised when I first tried The Midnight Walk because the handmade, stop‑motion look grabbed me, and it ended up sticking with me for its mood more than anything else. It feels like a softer, less punishing take on Amnesia: sneaking around with horror elements, getting tense when you’re caught, but without the game being cruel about it, and with hidden collectibles as a nice reward for exploring. I am not the type of person to commonly play horror games let alone a VR-supported horror game, but this one was very refreshing to experience. On top of that, it runs smoothly on modern PC setups like my Valve Index rig, which makes me really want to see it preserved on GOG instead of quietly disappearing.

The Midnight Walk is a real eye-catcher, offering one of the most distinctive and visually-arresting worlds yet seen in a horror game. As with most good walks, the experience is often best in its quieter moments, as the game’s puzzles and stealth sections range from good to sometimes merely adequate. That said, The Midnight Walk never strays too far off path and those in the mood for something spooky ought to enjoy the journey.

Fantastic Experience

I own this on steam. If you have VR, PLAY IT IN VR! This is what reanimal should of been. This game is actually engaging, fun to play and you do more than just hold the joystick in a direction. The art is phenomenal along with the entire theme. If you love creepy games, tim burton type art, then this experience is for you.

Nice visuals - bad performance

The atmosphere of the game is darn great! especially with the handcrafted visuals and the movement of the characters, which are animated in a stop motion kind of way. This adds to the overall creepy atmosphere. Also the music is very nice and the utilization of sound, too. One mechanic even needs you to "close your eyes" by holding down a button and following the sound you can hear. The design of the characters is crude, rough but can still be cute. In VR it is just great to look close at things and find little details. Now the not so nice part. The strange performance. I first started the game and it seemed to run fine. Only a couple of days later I couldn't play it anymore in vr. The frame freezes and takes way too long to update. It has become unplayable. Tried to restart the game four times, even after a restart of my pc and even with a restart from the beginning. The bad perfomance seems to stay. Since the game is really good in vr but now has become strangely unplayable, I have to give it such a low rating. Maybe it will be better in the future, I dont know. In such a case I will update the review. But for now, uninstall it is. HTC Vive users: it diesnt work out of the box with the vive controllers at all. I had to switch to my steam controllers. Dont know if you can adjust the vive ones via some *.ini file or something.

Incredible

I've not finished the whole story yet, but so far it's been fantastic. Interesting story, engaging characters, beautiful art, great music that fits the world so well. If you like story-driven narrative games and Tim Burton, this'll do it for you.
