A Prologue

In this game you play a student, who gets presented pictures and evidence of a crime. Two women were murdered. The killer is already behind bars, so this is just a training exercise. And that is already the biggest flaw of this game. Your actions have no consequences. It does not matter if you get something wrong and you never feel connected to the case. The first woman hardly plays a role, she is mentioned in the beginning and then a bit at the end and completely ignored otherwise. There is also no real backstory to the victims, so you do not care about them. All characters feel like a cliche and pretty hollow, maybe that’s where the name of the game comes from. Then there are the technical issues. Selecting fullscreen on a 4k display will give you the game in Full HD in the middle of the screen with big black borders all around. Why then even have the fullscreen option? It’s better to turn it off and just zoom the window, so you get it bigger. You cannot exit anytime you like. For a game that is so slow paced and saves the progress automatically you are not allowed to exit whenever you like. There are scenes that you have to sit through, especially at the beginning (and the credits). I often just play for a short time and I hate it when a game does not let me save and exit when I want. When there are multiple evidences required for a question and you have a wrong answer you will have to go through them all again when you try to submit a new solution. That gets tiresome really fast if you are not very good at finding the right answers. Close to the end when you shall present the final solution and you get it wrong you can get stuck. The game did not allow any further input and I also could not go back. Quitting and restarting solved that, but it does not feel very polished. So with the whole setup and the short playtime of around 2-5 hours this feels like a prologue and not like a real game.
