What if the world as we know it had already ended before the aliens arrived? What if humanity had twenty more years to prepare? Explore two new starting scenarios in Terra Invicta - Dark Skies and face the existential threat of an alien invasion with new challenges and opportunities. Drop into a world shattered by nuclear fire over a century ago, or rewind to 2003 and trade the rush to colonize the Solar System for a longer, slower fight on Earth. The premise changes, but the threat doesn’t – aliens are coming, and it's time to fight back.

Terra Invicta - Dark Skies includes:

  • 2003 Scenario - Take command of your faction during the US-led invasion of Iraq, as Earth's nations spiral into diplomatic turmoil and the true enemy begins moving in the shadows. With new projects and techs to research, and an alien force served by powerful sympathizers ready to counter your every move, you'll need fresh tactics to fight back. Learn to win a war few believe is happening – long before the battle ever reaches the stars.
  • Broken Earth Scenario - Step into an alternate history where the Cuban Missile Crisis erupted into nuclear war. A century later, the world that emerged is unrecognizable – the great powers have fractured, redrawing borders and giving rise to new nations. A divided humanity must claw its way back to strength to stand a chance against an implacable alien force. The world is at its weakest, and the worst is yet to come.
  • 2 New Ship Sets - Choose between two new visual styles, NASA-inspired or industrial hard sci-fi, to personalize your fleet’s appearance as you design it.

Lacking Color

Terra Invicta is a great game, in that it soon has you playing many hours on it even though at some point some of your many decisions or lack thereof may make final success elusive. Dark Skies offers new maps of the earth with some very interesting scenarios. Back to the 1990s (edit ..I mean 2003..I was mixing up my Iraq wars) with Earth at the time of the search for weapons of mass destruction with aliens becoming involved and a later earth a century ahead of us with new and sometimes amusing nations (Westralia for example which has been mooted at times in reality) after some mass destruction weapons have been used. The resistance does not have a lot of influence at the start so taking over nations with decent industrial/research bases is a bit harder than in the main game, Each new map starts with some different conflicts happening between earth nations compared to the parent game. Some notable changes are also present in the tech tree. In the earlier scenario you have a huge research hurdle ahead of you to get to some of the 2022 techs and space, Now this is only my initial impressions and opinion, I have yet to play it for a long time, but I feel that the impact of these new scenarios is significantly lessoned because each scenario in this DLC has the same graphics in the opening scenes and (for the Resistance at least) the same statements of mission as the main game. If your initial briefing was by someone who looked different and the briefing had a scenario specific context that would have been a big plus for initial immersion. The people you can recruit look the same as from the main game and even in the post nuclear scenario (where there was surely the opportunity to bring in a few oddities). My initial impressions from the pools of agents so far seen, are the traits are also the same. No 'irradiated' for example among the negative traits or some sort of mutated positive. From the early 2000s to the 2100s fashion in hairstyle or clothes (including fondness for odd black 1950 style police? hats ) and the traits and the age of these fixed characters does not seem to vary significantly from the original game. You still get the initial alien crash and a few other events as per the start of the main game In the post nuclear world, on the map there appears to be no glow, huge, blackened terrain or sun filtering dust clouds etc showing earth changing effects of mass desolation on the maps. There might be some less obvious stuff I have not picked up at this early stage. The issues I have raised with the DLC are all only cosmetic and so I hope that there is scope for some work in subsequent patches on appearance to better set the mood and character of these new scenarios so that they feel much more different from the start and so set the mood while you are waiting for your turns to eventually give rise to some different situations,

lackluster and buggy

tldr: is an expensive mod, sadly buggy you mainly only get 2 new starting scenarios, other features are minor even for a patch: - 2003 is basically same as before, a bit slower; early asteroid mining mixes up litte - broken earth reshuffles the map, new countries, new unifications; faction specific bonusses mixes up a bit more my showstopperbugs in broken earth: - initiative should get early tech cybernatic implant, only got name identical, but alone useless cost reduction, later tier techs because of this. could never upgrade my agents - exodus early tech should allow early asteroid mining, but could not probe - console not opening as this is the main feature of this dlc: great fun. what a dlc should have been (at least 1): - new player factions - different alien race to invade - new energy path (different from fusion/antimatter) - new weapon path - rework unification - play as aliens game mode - different attack modes on enemy countries (cyber attacks, terrorism, stealing) - different attack modes on space - psykers - unmanned robotic ships - better event system; more responsive events
