Experience the Tenebris Somnia demo today!

Tenebris Somnia is a survival horror adventure game in the same vein as classics like Silent Hill or Resident Evil - but adapted to a retro 2D aesthetic from the 8 or 16-bit era.

You will struggle to survive while solving puzzles and fighting horrible creatures.

Yet the secrets of the game lie within its cinematics...

When you reach certain key points you will see sequences from a completely different point of view, made in live action with real actors and practical effects - created by a professional and award winning film crew from Argentina.

Cool Survival Horror Which Shows Promise

I saw Youtube footage of this demo last year, but didn't expect to actually get to play it myself (since I refuse to use... the other... major game site) :) But, whilst I knew that there would be (better than I expected) live-action cutscenes, I was both surprised and delighted to see that this was a proper old-school survival horror game (with combat, inventory, a health meter etc...) rather than just a "point and click" :) It's also made by Andrés Borghi, who made a cool horror-themed 2D fighting game called "The Black Heart" during the late 2000s (It got an enhanced re-release a few years ago, but - alas - not on here at the time of writing). And it's cool to see that he's still making horror games :) The gameplay is standard survival horror puzzle-exploration-combat gameplay, balanced in a way where you'll have to avoid at least one or two of the monsters. And, despite the "simple" graphics, it still has the FEEL of classic survival horror during some moments too :) There's also a ton of attention to detail too, like reflections in mirrors, background details and even an adorable bit-crunched sound effect whenever you step on broken glass. As for the demo, it's about 40-60 minutes long (and doesn't have a saving system). But, despite the 2D pixel art graphics, it ran slightly slowly on my PC's ancient Intel HD 2500 integrated graphics and there aren't any resolution options either. Not only would these help with the speed (seriously, an "800 x 600" or "640 x 480" option would work wonders!) but, whilst the game goes into letterboxed mode during the actual gameplay, it defaults to a 16:9 widescreen resolution, meaning that the intro text can be clipped off if - like me - you're still using an old 4:3 monitor. [Edit: I almost forgot, I noticed a glitch (or possibly a missing animation) where Julia's sprite briefly becomes invisible after she takes damage. But the game isn't finished yet, so stuff like this is to be expected. It's still a fun demo though :) ] Still, it actually ran on my "potato" PC and this is cool :) And, yes, this demo certainly shows promise. It genuinely feels more like an old-school survival horror game than a "point and click", and this is really cool :)
