Not quite Max Payne
I realized I've wanted to play this game since 2007, when I played a preview demo at Penny Arcade Expo. My PC wasn't good enough then; I tried it on xbox 360 but didn't like using a controller, and there were some performance issues. Finally, I've completed the game! It's fun and stylized, but I have to knock a star off for a few things: -field of view (FOV) out of the box is nigh-unplayable until you apply a 3rd party fix (on pc gaming wiki). -uneven gameplay. difficulty spikes, weird world-interacting mechanics, getting stuck on world geometry... I think you do more damage in slow mo or hiding behind cover, which seems like... just let the guns do the damage they do, ya know? also most bosses are "shoot them until they die," and levels are padded with throwing more and more enemies at you. -it's a short game! the part that took longest was replaying places I kept dying. That said - it's a lot of fun. I beat it in about two sittings, and immediately started over on Hard Boiled difficulty. Owes a lot to John Woo/Chow Yun Fat's film, Hard Boiled - a must-watch if you like this game but haven't seen it.
