Description

The city burns and bleeds as it suffers the madness of King Louis XVI and his violent legions of automatons. Aegis, a mechanical masterpiece created by the engineer Vaucanson to be the queen's bodyguard, must save the French Revolution in this challenging action-RPG.

CHALLENGING COMBAT BETWEEN AUTOMATONS

Up against the king's mechanical soldiers, deadly accuracy will be needed. String together dodges, parries, jumps and devastating attacks to fight your way through Paris. Every fight will test your nerve and requires excellent discipline, while the huge relentless machine bosses demand patience and skill.

AEGIS: A CHARACTER WITH EXTRAORDINARY SKILLS

Define your own style and upgrade your abilities as you progress through the game. You can play as a ruthless warrior, a hard-hitting bodyguard, a deadly dancer or a virtuoso of the elemental arts. Take advantage of a wide variety of weapons and skills to approach each fight in your own unique way.

REVOLUTIONARY PARIS IS YOUR PLAYGROUND

Using carriages, grapples, secret passages, a detailed map, and other methods and tools you find along the way, explore a city experiencing its darkest days. Your grappling hook adds a new dimension to exploration and Paris's verticality. Combined with your dash ability, it will provide access to all the city's secrets across multiple levels you can explore over and over again.

CHANGE THE COURSE OF HISTORY

You are one of the main characters of an alternative history where Paris is being choked by a tyrant king. Allies and enemies with unclear motives will cross your path, such as Marie-Antoinette, Lafayette and Robespierre. It's up to you to cut a path through all the plotting and put an end to one man's madness so that the French Revolution succeeds.

Fun, Challenging and Entertaining Game

Steelrising is a fun, challenging, and entertaining "Souls-like" RPG game. I really like the engaging story as it takes place in a alternative universe during the French Revolution. The King has an army of unstoppable automatons that has caused a path of destruction. The only one who can stop this madness is the Queen's bodyguard, Aegis. Aegis is an automaton too. She is the only hope there is to stopping the King's unstoppable army. There are a great variety of offensive and defensive weapons that Aegis can use to slay any automatons that get in her way. You can upgrade and change up the weapons anytime during the game. In additon, there are RPG upgrades too that will make Aeigs even more powerful throughout her journey of achieving her goals. I love the "Assist Mode" option in this game. I have played one "Dark Souls" games and this feature is a big welcome. I can adjust the difficulty level anytime in the game to suit my playing skills. This will eliminate the frustrations of fighting minions in the same area and Big Bosses too over and over again. The only negative to this game is the performance optimization issues. Other than that, the characters and world designs are detailed and top-notch. I highly recommend this game. It is a challenging "Souls-like" game where you can adjust the difficulty levels anytime and this will eliminate frustration and possible PTSD. The story, setting, characters, and the detailed world make this game very engaging. I really hope a sequel will be made.

A solid, but a little too easy soulslike

I have never been very fond of any of Spiders' previous titles, so I was sceptical when they announced a soulslike title. After finishing the game in New Game mode and now being just about to finish the game on New Game + mode, though, I have to say that I am presently surprised. "Steelrising" checks all the typical boxes for the genre: - a focus on one-on-one combat (engaging several enemies is possible and sometimes forced but not really recommendable) - mini-bosses and major bosses (which are one-offs) - levels/maps that fold onto themselves with discoverable shortcuts - one currency for everything (anima essence = souls, which is used for levelling, upgrading weapons, and purchasing items) - upon player death, all enemies except for bosses respawn - unlockable savepoints (vestal = bonfire, used for levelling, upgrading weapons, and purchasing items) - linear experience with backtracking and revisiting areas (ER is an exception) Differences from other games, including FromSoftware titles and others, are the following: - difficulty: "Steelrising" is significantly and noticably easier both in combat and exploration; it never pulls any stunts on the player where the latter is instantly killed by some form of trap (crushed, burned, stabbed, etc.) or drops off a ledge he or she was not able to notice in advance; the combat is a little too easy for my personal taste, and I did not even touch the assistance mode, which allows you to make the game even less challenging than it already is (by reducing incoming damage, making the character not drop currency on death, and more) - game world: the world is dark and gloomy, but not completely hopeless; in fact, the world can be restored and improved after the final boss is killed and the big bad guy is dethroned - player choices: the player can make choices in some cases, but they do not affect the world enough for my taste Overall, I enjoyed my time with "Steelrising", give it a 4/5 rating, and definitely recommend it.

Frustrating Enjoyment

A very entertaining and accessable "Souls-like" game for those who do not wish to smash their keyboard. Steelrising offers an interesting and engaging story, enjoyable gameplay and captivating atmosphere, which grabs before you can say Les Miserable... Les Mieserables?!... Something in French :D Anyway, it is a perfect game if you want to play something "Souls-like" without wanting to tear your hair out, because it offers (in my oppinion) a very good learning curve, while leaving just enough for the avarage person to explore and find on their own. Now, the biggest enemy of Steelrising is the video settings. You'll have to keep them one idea lower then what is recomended. Seriously, I have a farily powerful machine (not top of the line, but slightly above avatage) and at the recomended settings, I experienced frame-drops, slow-downs, stuttering and one crash due to overheating (after 4 consecutive hours of playtime). Which is a real shame, because I'm really enjoying Steelrising. Overall, Steelrising is fun and entertaining game, which will keep you happy for some time, if you can run it.

Amazing game for Soul seekers

Steelrising is a entertaining "Souls-like" RPG game. Game is Challenging enough to be entertaining when you do manage to overcome adversity, but easier to get through compared to other games that intend to satisfy the game genre enthusiast. If it is harder than one can handle there is also an assist mode that makes it easier to breeze through the game and enjoy the story and setting. Having a world set during an alternate history of France during the Revolution and adds steam punk robots to the mix is something different than the standard fantasy setting, where you take part in it. It certainly pretty if you do manage to get the appropriate hardware to run the game. I didn't have the RTX Graphics card to have it run on the highest setting, but the game aesthetic and design is able to be pleasing to look at. I have yet to face any bugs in the game except for one that involved finding a place out of the geometry and could softlock a person due to scraping a zone trying to find to fufill a sidequest that can only done by progressing through the main quest. Character classes are given in the beginning, but will not prevent you to use the unique weapons in the game. Nothing much to say other than than the controls being very responsive. Overall I recomend the game, and especially the Bastille edition on a sale due to getting the dlc that has more stuff to you. Hopefully the developers will be able to continue to make good stuff similar or better to this. Until then this is plenty of good and challenging fun when you do manage to have the time to do so.

yeah...no.

could be fun. Story looks ok but repetition of same fights just to go from pont A to point B is boring. I know you can just run but you need to lvl up too. I regret buying this game.
