Space Hulk: Ascension
Players' stories
Space Hulk - Ascension has been delisted years ago and is essentially abandonware now. The description very much does it justice and the screenshots give a good impression of the dark atmospheric look. Gameplay is slow, methodical and often repetitive, but Ascension introduces various additions which help keep things interesting. DLCs added many more chapters to choose from on top of that and adjustable difficulty is yet another way to customize the experience. Its main strengths lie in atmosphere and good sound design and the relatively small margin for error that lends the player's actions weight and keeps the tension up. Edit: Both Ascension and Classic are back on Steam now.

No difference from original version

I own the original Space Hulk: Ascension on Steam and I cannot tell any obvious difference from that title. The game is kind of interesting with terminator progress, RPG style. Various equipment and chapters. Overall, is more of a puzzle game with RNG elements. Very difficult. I would say borderline frustrating. Also slow. Very slow. It is too dark to see the map and this is a tactical problem. Map layout is something that terminators should know an was the base of the original game. You can plan ahead and not wonder like a drunk sailor, while genestealers swarm your men, that jam their storm bolters. Blips are also not very well represented as in the original space hulk. The graphics are nice, even though not exceptional. No cut scenes and story is crudely told trough mission briefings. Overall is dripping in the right atmosphere. Is by no means a bad game but is lacking. In the end, could be less than fun. I found the original Space Hulk (1993) the superior game. Only for Space Hulk fan.
