Point and Click game at its best

If you loved the golden era of Lucas Arts Point and Click adventure games, you’re in for a delightful treat. This game boasts solid gameplay, impressive voice acting, great puzzles, and a great branching dialogue that shapes the narrative. I wholeheartedly recommend it.

not a big hit

Following Drifter and Old Skies, this adventure feels less like an interactive game and more like a tedious book. While those titles delivered their stories dynamically, this one is buried under a mountain of boring text. I appreciate the graphics, but the game engine is clumsy.

You don't want to miss this game

It's been a few years coming, but Rosewater is a wonderful adventure game well worth the wait. From a technical standpoint, the game is high quality throughout. The art and animation are great; it's clear a lot of love and dedication went into it. The voice acting is on point throughout and adds a great deal to the game. And the music! It's thematic, interesting, and expansive, and really brings the game to life. I can see why the soundtrack is offered as DLC - buy it - it's great! The game design is very well done, with straightforward mechanics that complement the narrative, rather than distracting from it. The narrative structure itself has an interesting way of letting you make choices that affect the progression of the game in various ways. All through the game, the focus is on the characters though. The people you meet while progressing through the game have characters arcs that you can choose to delve into in various ways, which gives the game a lot of depth (and makes me want to replay to see what else I might have done in certain areas). Plus it's fun to see the connections to Lamplight City that are scattered throughout. All in all, the game is fantastic, exceeding my expectations - not easy to do when a game has been anticipated this long. Well done, Grundislav Games!

Only second act is good

The game had potential but mostly wasted it. I was intrigued by the weird west setting, but the weird part of it is mostly ignored. You'll occasionally see some anachronistic technology, and its an alternate history, but most of the time its just your standard wild west setting. It makes the rare moments when something like a computer shows up stand out. I think if you are going to have a weird west setting you should go all in. The only act I really enjoyed was the second act where you going on a journey through the countryside. It was fun to have little vignettes where you have to solve a problem. The character development was also better compared to the first and third acts, where the characters feel pretty lackluster. I also feel like the choices matter aspect dragged down the gameplay and story. The third act's story was really negatively effected by it. Alternate solutions are nice, but not if there is a "wrong" solution. Especially, if you don't know if an alternate solution exists. At least the game isn't annoying and lets the player do manual saves. The puzzles are boring and tedious in act 1 and 3. You will also probably need to use the hotspot indicator, because sometimes you need to interact with background objects like chairs, but only very specific ones. While act 2 was mostly fine, it did have an annoying puzzle where you have to exhaust the dialogue tree with every NPC multiple times in order to progress. This is despite the character having the relevant information. In act 3, there was multiple puzzles that required you coming through a bunch of stuff in order to find a solution. It wasn't challenging and felt like pure busy work to pad out the length of act 3. The game isn't completely without merit, but honestly there are other better adventure games out there. Act 2 alone isn't enough to redeem the rest of the game.

It's not a game it's a visual novel

Very boring and long long dialog sequances you can't get out of.
