Romancing SaGa 2™

First of all, if you enjoy challenging, mechanics-heavy JRPGs with unusual systems, light story elements, and no hand-holding, then you're in for a real treat with Romancing SaGa 2. It excels in all of these departments, and is worth a try in particular if you enjoyed Final Fantasy II. As for the GOG version, the improved controller support is definitely appreciated, as the version found on "that other storefront" tends to have issues in that regard (albeit fixable with a bit of tinkering). However, the GOG version has a bug that isn't present on the "hot air" storefront version: audio will only work if the speaker setup has been set to stereo. Romancing SaGa 2's sound is only mixed in stereo, so there is no loss in audio fidelity, but for those using a speaker setup other than stereo (such as 5.1), this bug is certainly inconvenient. Whenever I want to play Romancing SaGa 2 with sound, I first need to go into my speaker settings, change from 5.1 to stereo, and when I'm finished playing, I need to revert that setting. On the "other" version, I don't have to do any of this. I've been able to confirm that Romancing SaGa 3 has the same issue, and from what I can tell, all SaGa games on GOG suffer from this bug. I've tried communicating this to GOG support, but they didn't even understand what I was talking about, so there's that. For Romancing SaGa 2 in particular, the bug whereby framepacing worsens the longer the game is running is also fully intact and untouched on the GOG version. In summary, this is very much worth playing, but if you're using a speaker configuration other than stereo, you may not want to be playing this particular version.
