Pathway

This fantasy Indiana Jones-like universe offers some replay value, even though the stories are not very compelling. As a simplified turn-based combat, loot-the-room, exploring, buy-better-weapons RPG it's a good pastime. It's not an open world, it works more like a dungeon. The only difference is that you need the jeep to travel from one "dungeon" location to another, so you need to keep an eye on the fuel. It also has a simplified ammo system (there's just "ammo", you don't have to manage by round caliber) and simplified inventory. Simplified inventory also means that characters can equip only one extra item apart from main weapon and armor. It works fine, avoids micro-management and encourages player choices.

It's very generic, but that doesn't make it bad. There's a noticable lack of polish in animations which drives me up the wall- animations become incredibly choppy on higher combat speed. Aside from that, there isn't much to say. Pick an adventure, move around a map and run into occasional events or fights. These are all things you see in a lot of other, better roguelites. This game doesn't stand out at all, but might be worth picking up if you enjoy the setting or are just looking for something new to play. Regardless, it's not worth paying full price in my opinion. Wait for a sale if you're thinking of buying Pathway.

Unfortunately, most of the other reviews are correct. This game is pretty, with a very nice theme and soundtrack. The first time you play, it is well worth it and fun. Then, you have to keep playing new adventures to progress with the story and unlock new characters, it is when the fun fades. Battles are very dull after you acquire some good weapons and you get confidence on the inability of the AI. Because of that, resource management gets pointless since you won't be spending a lot to win. Also, battles get very repetitive. Story is also dull and simple, and depending on your creed, even offensive. Random events could be so much more than small episodic talking, secret door lever finding and pointless battles. For the price I paid, I can't say it wasn't worth, but not a bargain either.

I played through the first adventure...once the enemy was able to shoot one of my team members through a tank, I knew this game was going to be trash. Cover means nothing and the enemy outnumber you and are all snipers. No thanks...

I liked the nice pixel art, the feel of being on an adventure all the way to the end of the game and the progression around the characters, unlocking them, gearing them up, leveling them... But the fights got repetitive pretty fast since there isn't much of a reason to fight either for, I kept taking most fights cause of the achievements and I really wanted to unlock every character. I didn't care much anymore past that and tried to rush the end with some new, low level characters... I lost the very last fight of the game, I bet I missed out on some of its ending scenario lines but I can't be bothered to redo the last part again. Still a nice little game IMO.
