Early impressions

To preface, currently only in second area and wouldn't normally review a game this early but wanted to share some impressions about controller use and mechanics. Pros: - Detailed pixel art and various fluid animations. - Auto switches UI depending on controller type connected (Xbox, Dualshock). However a bug shows some Xbox prompts still (see below). - Liberal save points (at least at this early point). --- Things to know: - If using a controller place your mouse somewhere else that it won't move at all since otherwise even the most minute of movements will interrupt your character movement and make it feel stuttery. - If using a Dualshock 4 controller with DS4Windows use a profile with direct passthrough so the game doesn't detect two controllers and switch between UI prompts. --- Critiques: - A key mechanic is a dive attack but it's not fluid to pull off (at least with an analog stick) and if the combo doesn't trigger you get damaged by the enemy. I'm wondering if the tolerance for down angles isn't high enough or what (ie: only works if stick perfectly down), since Shovel Knight has a similar mechanic but I recall that being fluid to use. - The scaling is odd for fonts. Not a big deal but a major selling point of games with nice pixel art is consistency. I found at 1440p/27" the game too 'close' looking so I switched to windowed mode at 1280x800 resolution but that causes all the fonts to be blurry/antialiased. Normally in such pixel art games the windowed option offers resolutions/scale factors tailored be the ideal/pixel aligned look but here there's no setting where the fonts aren't blurry. --- Bugs: - Despite detecting a Dualshock 4 controller and showing the correct Playstation UI prompts some prompts remain Xbox prompts—specifically the back prompt for both signpost tips (B button) and when viewing Items menu items (Y button).
