Travis Touchdown here. It's been three years since I clawed my way to #1 in the United Assassins Association. I thought it'd be fine to take it easy for a while after that, but it looks like I rested on my laurels a little too long. I found myself sliding down the ranks all the way to #51, and to make things worse, some other assassin—Skelter Helter—comes out and starts nagging my head off about me killing his brother or something. So yeah, a real pain in the you-know-what.

A superior sequel in every way, No More Heroes 2: Desperate Struggle takes everything that made the first installment so memorable and gets rid of everything else. It also tells a more focused and mature story, though it doesn't shy away from extreme bloodletting and ridiculous humor. It's truly fantastic from start to finish.

No More Heroes 2: Desperate Struggle is satirical, nonsensical, and just plain weird. It's also fast, bloody, impactful, and a few other things that I am not sure I can or should put into words. It sometimes makes the original title feel more subdued, which is strange to say since that the first game wasn't exactly tame. Given its much-improved gameplay loop, interesting side-quests, insane boss fights, and hilarious gameplay, NMH2 is indeed a wild rollercoaster ride that must be seen to be believed. If this does not get you hyped for the series' third entry, nothing will.

No More Heroes 2: Desperate Struggle is a game that takes the formula of the first game and greatly improves upon it. The action is amplified, and while the minigames are more interesting this time around, they aren't necessary if you want to beat the game. The overall streamlining keeps the gameplay rhythm going, as the pacing is much better, but the story is more straightforward and less ludicrous than before. It remains a well-done game, but it would've been better if the options for PC players were up to modern snuff.

This works natively now.

I guess the GOG team play tested this and got it to work on Windows 11 seamlessly now. I get 4K 60 FPS as intended for a true console to PC release. I am using a new high-end gaming rig with Windows 11. I tested this game on Steam with Windows 10 a few years back and I was not able to get a native 4K 60 FPS. I can now achieve the desired optimization with this GOG release.

Downgrade in Every Way

This is simply worse than the first one in every single way (except for ditching the empty open world, that was a good choice). The combat manages to feel both more responsive and much stiffer at the same time, the end result being just awkward. The minigames are by far the worst I've ever played, they're unresponsive but demand high precision and serves only to frustrate. The main levels are much shorter (somehow) and have little to no variety, unless it's yet another poorly executed minigame. I cleared the first game despite some minor frustrations, but this one? Too many annoyances all pile up against not enough fun.

still a solid sequel

played the wii version years ago. like it back then and still like this version. not perfect story and gameplay wise, but the things that gets right, it really get right. amazing ost too. make sure to run the exe in admin mode and windows 7/8 + no antialising if your game crashes at captain vladimir boss fight

Technical state of the game

Windows 10 User here, at the moment, It CTD's at random times and can easily erase your 30 min progress in some places. As a result, sadly I have to rate this way. There are no fixes on the net and I basically lost about 2-3 hours of game time by the time I finished the game and had to skip most of the parts of it in order to at least complete the story.
