Fly smoothly from deep space to planetary surfaces, with no loading screens, and no limits. In this infinite procedurally generated universe, you'll discover places and creatures that no other players have seen before - and perhaps never will again.

Now including...

Play with all major updates since launch: Foundation, Pathfinder, Atlas Rises, NEXT, The Abyss, Visions, the 2.0 BEYOND update, Synthesis, Living Ship, Exo Mech, Desolation and the 3.0 update, ORIGINS, Next Generation, Companions, Expeditions, Prisms, Frontiers, Sentinel, Outlaws, Endurance, Waypoint (4.0), Fractal, Interceptor, Echoes, Omega, Orbital, Worlds Part I (5.0), Worlds Part II, Relics, Beacon and VOYAGERS (6.0).

An epic voyage to the centre of a shared universe awaits, allowing you to explore, trade, fight and survive alone or with friends.

Embark on an epic voyage

At the centre of the galaxy lies an irresistible pulse which draws you on a journey towards it to learn the true nature of the cosmos. But, facing hostile creatures and fierce pirates, you'll know that death comes at a cost, and survival will be down to the choices you make over how you upgrade your ship, your weapon and suit.

Find your own destiny

Your voyage through No Man's Sky is up to you. Will you be a fighter, preying on the weak and taking their riches, or taking out pirates for their bounties? Power is yours if you upgrade your ship for speed and weaponry.

Or a trader? Find rich resources on forgotten worlds and exploit them for the highest prices. Invest in more cargo space and you'll reap huge rewards.

Or perhaps an explorer? Go beyond the known frontier and discover places and things that no one has ever seen before. Upgrade your engines to jump ever farther, and strengthen your suit for survival in toxic environments that would kill the unwary.

Share your journey

The galaxy is a living, breathing place. Trade convoys travel between stars, factions vie for territory, pirates hunt the unwary, and the police are ever watching. Every other player lives in the same galaxy, and you can choose to share your discoveries with them on a map that spans known space. Perhaps you will see the results of their actions as well as your own...

You must resist...

So, here we go, (there will be spoilers in this review). As a PC only gamer, I usually try to ignore articles and adverts for console games. Not because I hate consoles, but because I don't want to get sucked in to buying a console that I just can't afford. This game was one of those games, even after I heard that it was coming out on PC, I still resisted. Finally, the hype was everywhere, I couldn't not see it. I watch a video, I read some articles, you know, I tried to do my homework. It LOOKED like a fun game. A universe with all these planets to explore, strange creatures to see, ships to buy. So I bought it, paid full price as there was no one even offering a dicount. I'm 20 hours in now, I bought a big ship, I upgraded my exosuit, visited the first Atlas Base...aaaaaaand I really don't have any desire to play anymore. Oh I probably will, but not right away. I love open ended games, I've played a lot of Minecraft, and you need a goal in those types of games. The difference is, you choose your goals instead of the game choosing them for you. I'm going to build a base that looks like the Taj Mahal, or I want to produce and store tons of power etc etc. No Man's sky doesn't have that pull, that gravity. I've explored every planet in every system I've gone through, I've completely explored one planet. But the more planets I went to, the more it started to dawn on me, these planets are all the same. Sure they look different, but they are all the same. The same 6 or 7 building types are on every planet, some more or less than others. But it's a depressing thought, a universe full of the same things. I can only imagine the code behind the procedural planets and lifeforms wasn't easy to write, but it's like they did it, and then didn't check their work. I've seen buildings underwater that it's obvious they shouldn't be underwater, as there is fluid port on the outside flowing into...water. There are just some things that don't make sense, like how all the planets are so close together, how they don't really vary in size, how almost everyone if them has life. How you start with a basic exosuit, and to upgrade your suit you have to use inventory space to do it...you have to find places to buy new slots on a planet. This took me many systems. We are able to flit from system to system, but I have to keep feeding all of these systems that are keeping me alive, the technology doesn't exist, to automatically take resources from my inventory. Shields go down during space combat? Is there even a hotkeys to automatically refill shields? Nope, better hope you don't get destroyed while you go into your inventory and reload your shields. Want to fly low to the ground? Can't. Want to have smooth control of flight in space? Better hope your wrists can withstand all the side scrolling you are going to be doing. You can't even stop flying in space! You are either going forward or backward. If you accidentlly hit "e" while flying, no way to cancel that landing. No hovering on a planet either unless you are landing. This could've been a good game, the foundation was there, but it's like they closed their eyes and threw their hands up before the game was done and said sell it. It just doesn't have any polish. The thrill of being the first person to find a planet or a system fades quickly, when you realize the chances of anyone ever seeing it, could be remote. Performance wise, for having pretty low system requirements, there are some serious lag issues and hangups. Crashing, artifacts, visual lag, and the game seems to be a processor hog. I'm not going to say do or don't buy this game, but maybe wait until it's less than 60 bucks. For an indie title to be that much, should have been a red flag to me.

New Man's Sky

This is not at all the game it was at launch. Whatever your feelings about how all that went down, it's clear this is a game the developers have put a lot of love into. Since the last patch, things have really turned around. The addition of a proper story, vehicles, new space combat mechanics, a graphical overhaul, some new systems, new ships, new NPC interactions, a full overhaul to system and planet generation, a rudimentary multiplayer system (a framework for future updates), and the usual smattering of bugfixes and the like. Oh, and a couple new biomes (deserts!). This is the 3rd patch, so you've now cumulatively got a lot of new stuff if you've either never played or not played since launch. Base-building and farming were added, a creative mode, a survival mode, and a 1-life permadeath mode. Freighters were added, which you can also design inside using a building system, and you can hire NPCs, etc. Low-flying with a spaceship is now possible, so you can zoom above planet surfaces, but you can also use 3 new exocrafts to actually zoom around on the surface too, which makes planet exploration a lot more fun. It's still a little rough around some of its edges. The PC version is not a technical masterpiece, though it's certainly better than it was. A lot has been done to make the game look better (high-res textures and new lighting in particular), which makes the new photo mode a real joy to play around with, but performance still isn't perfect. I don't have any framerate issues, but I do still get screen tearing even after messing with vsync. That said, it's not bad. For a huge game with so much procedural stuff, on top of being from a really tiny developer, nothing here is to be unexpected, and the improvements are welcome. If you've been on the fence, give this a try. If you were put off at launch, now's a great time to give it another go. The updates got me back on board, and now I'm hooked. NMS is officially a great game if the chill vibe is to your liking.

Got the game on PS4 when it released

It was bad performance, missing features, and broken promises. Now several years on it has recieved several big content updates. Many missing features made it to the game and so did lots of things that weren't promised. The difference from the original release game is astounding. The game is still a procedural survival gathering game but combat is better, exploring is better, graphics are better, variation is better, and it now has a new feature of building... either inside your new capitol ship or on the surface of a planet with your without your friends which you can now actually play with. I wish the game had dropped in price since $39 or $29 would be a great price for this indi game. I guess the promise of more amazing free updates which don't appear to be stopping any time new has to be funded somehow when the game doesn't microtransaction you do death like so many others.

Gets boring quickly.

Bought it so we can play with my husband but it quickly turned out you just play next to each other, not together, so do not buy it if you want a cool space game to enjoy with someone. For me personally the game at this point is super boring, it's very repetetive, you do the same thing over and over again, the planets look the same, I guess if such things distress you then it's a good choice. The idea of this game is awesome, but after so much time and updated it's still empty when it comes to content.

Interesting concept, garbage controls

Overall, the game is quite fun, looks nice, and is refreshing, but garbage console UI can lead to injury. Holding A/D keys to adjust amounts from 9999 to say 50, holding mouse keys on every interaction, and do not even mention the deeply nested construction and context menus, for 2020 it's beyond miserable. Revisiting in 2025, the UI is still the biggest letdown. You have large 4k screens, but the amount of information on the screen is less than on a phone screen. Shops and upgrades show like 8 items at a time, really??? Still no sliders to adjust amounts. UI needs to be fixed!
