Description
Neon Abyss is a frantic, roguelike action-platformer where you run ‘n’ gun your way into the Abyss as part of the Hades formed ‘Grim Squad’. Featuring unlimited item synergies and a unique dungeon evolution system, each run diversifies the experience and every choice alters the ruleset. Get ready to unleash hell!

Combining furious run ‘n’ gun action and deep, roguelike mechanics, Neon Abyss pits you as a member of ‘Grim Squad’ – a task force set-up by Hades himself to infiltrate the Abyss and defeat the New Gods. Death is not the end as every time you die, you’ll find yourself more empowered than before.




As you progress through each dungeon, random item drops will be key in helping you infiltrate the Abyss and these passive effects can stack between every item. With no limit to how many can apply; a wide variety of combinations will make each run unique.


With each run, you will be able to unlock new rooms, items, bosses, special rules and even new endings! This means each dungeon is unique and expandable, being tailored to your own specific playstyle.

Hatch and Evolve Pets

If you need some company on your journey into the depths of the abyss, or just some additional firepower or assistance, eggs can be found which will turn into a random pet that has a special ability and will evolve the longer you survive.

Mini-Games

Take a short break from slaying minions and take part in random mini-games that will also bag you some loot! Jump into Piano Performances, Meditation Challenge, Dance Competitions, and more – staying alive just got a lot more interesting!

Neon Abyss is colourful, bright and a lot of fun. While I found a lot of the room layouts and levels a tad repetitive, there is enough there to keep you entertained. The mini-games and weapons are great. It looks good, sounds awesome and will find a home in any rogue-like fans gaming collection.

Neon Abyss is one of the best roguelite action games to come along in recent memory. Given how many great roguelites we've seen the past few years, that's definitely a tall order. But thanks to its smooth gameplay and compelling upgrade systems, there's no denying just how entertaining and exhilarating Neon Abyss is.

Technical Note

In response to catstatue - As of version ~1.4, the game prompts you when you are about to reset your current run (including going to the main menu). However, there appears to be a real in-game visual glitch (at least for Windows 7) - sometimes boss health bar/teleport screen/general HUD icons become frozen/corrupted and stop being useful. I have found that if I teleport often, the problem has not come back (as well as selecting Run as Admin and setting folder privileges as per GOG's general troubleshooting tips). Enjoy!

Fun and colorful shooter!

I bought this after watching a youtuber play it (DangerouslyFunny) and it is a blast! A classic rouge-like style with a bright pallet and chill chip-tune tracks. Recommended if you enjoy a casual 2d shooter that isn't Megaman level if difficulty while still being a challenge.

Fun Game but Buggy.

No matter how long since it seems this game still has game/run-breaking bugs and strange glitches, I've seen people talk about the one where you'll be unable to drop down ledges, but I've also had ones where I can't jump all of a sudden anymore and most recently last time I was playing strange font/text took over the mini map and popped up on the bottom right of the screen and in other places too In addition to this I was unable to open my map anymore afterwards. Plus with the fact how the digital deluxe editon of this doesn't come with all the DLC even though the Steam verison does it's hard to recommend. It is fun but it's hard to play because of the bugs.

Minimal Effort From the Devs

After discovering its existence in 2023 from Muse Dash having a collab with them, I held off buying Neon Abyss due to checking other reviews stating the game was in a rough state regarding bugs and balancing as well as checking gogdb and finding that the game hadn't been updated in over a year compared to the Steam version. Fast forward to today, I randomly check gogdb again and see that they have finally updated Neon Abyss on GOG after an entire THREE YEARS since the last patch in 2022 and it was on sale, so I finally buy it. I boot the game, finish the tutorial, go to the character select... and there is no Buro character available. I did some searching and it would appear that the developers abandoned this game on GOG, finally did some bare minimum patches in 2025, and still have yet to actually include some of the content that's available on Steam. Just to top it all off, those patches they did must not have fixed much as the only D-Pad direction that works in menus for me is up and even when using a mouse to change settings, it takes multiple presses to change settings like resolution and the number of presses needed between the different resolution options isn't even consistent. I am currently debating refunding this game already.
