Description
From the creators of the popular “Brytenwalda” mod, we present to you “Viking Conquest”, DLC for Mount & Blade Warband! This single and multi player DLC brings Mount & Blade to historical Dark Age Britain, complemented by authentic scenes and cultures. The DLC a story mode with a complex plot, where choices have real consequences, as well as a standard sandbox mode in an all new setting, with expanded options and controls. Online battling also takes on its own flavour, with special modes like Coastal Assault and Warlord. And now with the Reforged Edition, there are now many more things to do, minigames, minor quests and a new, longer questline. And of course plenty of new items to wear and weapons to wield.

  • Living world that evolves around you, with historical and random events, as well as the actions of the player all contributing.
  • More than 300 new cities, castles, villages and special scenes to discover, explore, conquer and plunder.
  • More than 200 historical characters and 100 extra NPCs: Kings, Lords, Ladies, bards, priests and many others. Meet legendary figures like Ivar the Boneless or his bother Sigurd Snake-in-the-Eye, royalty like Harald, later known as FairHair, or Aelfred of Wessex.
  • A story mode where the player will be part of a complex plot involving political conspiracy, during the time the sons of Ragnar were leading their Great Heathen Army through Britain. An immersive game style with choice and consequence, romance, betrayal, moments of greatness and ruin.
  • A sandbox mode, the classic Mount&Blade system, where goals are determined by the player, but with all the richness and options offered by the new setting.
  • More than 15 possible companions, with deep interaction and different personalities. Sometimes their conflicts will force you to use cunning and diplomacy.
  • A complex religion system with two faiths, The Norse Gods and Christianity, with monasteries, special NPCs and parties. Religion will be a important factor in the game that will affect the player's interactions even within their own party.
  • Naval travel and warfare, a key feature to really make the setting complete.
  • Battles can range from simple robbery to massive naval conflicts between huge fleets laden with warriors, all in dynamic battles where you can pilot your own boat, adjusting for factors such as wind, waves, and weather.
  • The option to build your own refuge, hire staff for it, and populate it with the wives and children of your troops...
  • Detailed siege warfare system, with options to reduce a defender by hunger or morale, or by direct assault. With hard choices, plagues and famines, coastal assaults.
  • The Reforged Edition adds new storylines, battle mechanics, minigames, items and a dog companion.

Post-hotfix: Profit! :)

1st and foremost: Most negative reviews below are based on the version before the Day 2 Hotfix. In one sentence: this is Brytenwalda with a "hand-made" storyline. After the hotfix and patch have been installed, the CTDs and blurry textures are fixed. The story remains great, the characters have realistic motivations, at least partially based on historical sources I'd wager. The pillaging of Britain remains fun. Owning horses and good armor remains a privilege reserved for the noblesse, or other insanely rich people, as it should be. Overall, I'm quite satisfied once the visuals and CTDs were fixed. :D Find the 1.163 update for Warband here: https://www.taleworlds.com/en/Games/Warband/Download Under the "Latest Patch" heading. And the Viking Conquest Hotfix here: http://download2.taleworlds.com/mb_warband_viking_conquest_setup_1162_10_hotfix.exe Install it and nevermind the "1162" in the filename. I'm only giving the DLC 4/5 because of the outdated engine it's using. I haven't completed it yet, but

The Good, The Bad, and The Viking

Honestly, I don't know why people feel it necessary to rate it, :1 STAR SO LOW URRGG", some people can be very whiny. I personally have enjoyed the game so far, the bugs do exist, but I haven't come across any horrible ones. And to be honest this is a day one release from a franchise known to have lots of blip bugs. (MOVING ON) The Soundtrack: It;s excellent fit with the setting, really makes me feel like a viking age warrior traversing the land. The beat of the drums, the humming, the pipers piping MMM-MMMMmm good shit! The Crunch: One has to remember, this ISN'T mount and blade Warband, But VIKING CONQUEST. The combat is focused more on historically accurate and Realistic. If you want your swing fest go play War of the Vikings, and we all know how that "game" turned out. -You can do shield walls it works its awesome -Bows are not rocket projectile monsters -The formations are Coo' as the kids say The Multiplayer: AH The big one everyone wants to really know about, YES the multiplayer is good, hell it's great. EXCEPT FROM one flaw, the fucking noise from smashing doors, MAN that noise is loud and annoying but you can fix it but fucking with your audio -You can "Shield Knock" to taunt your enemies -You can berserk but at a huge cost -You can blow HORNS to boost you ally's strength And wave banners to improve morale! -Great voices, and Yells instead of the same URRGUGUGGU The graphics For a game thats as OLD as mount and blade thsi game looks pretty damn good, of course the problem is getting it to run at said setting without the choppiness setting in can be a bit frustrating, UNTIL you change FORCE LOAD TEXTURES, TURN DAT SHIT OFF. It is no BEUNO! (You'll thank me later) -The waves fucking wave(legit) -Character models all look like beefy mcroast beef! -Horses Look 5x better then before, FINALLY Epilogue: In all honesty This Expansion is for the niche, its for those historical nerds who enjoy vikings and that's what they made no excuses barred.

Historically inspiring Viking Saga

I've played the Mount & Blade franchise from the first game, from a beta release. I feel that this reforged edition is giving me much more push to play it to the end, then every other release+mod. Why? The story. I'm an historical freak, reading books from the age, viking sagas, treatise, fighting in armour myself and, to my opinion, this Viking conquest fill the gap of what I was missing from all other Mount & Blade: history. You can see a portion of Europe, with real regions and cultures. The immersion is quite complete as you can nearly see and feel what the places and stories are all about. Quite early in the game your character will prophetize his coming back... with an army and have revenge: and you told this to some NPC that matter about you. Of which you have interacted and developed a relation. That's the kind of Viking saga that I was looking for! Gaming wide the engine has some more skills and realism built in it. * Bows & arrows are not the weapon of doom and destruction * There are some serious wounds that can cripple you if not healed * The addition of monastery is interesting, like the needs to learn to read * The religious component in faschinating * The locations are much more expansive and detailed * The combat system still make use of hit points (a big let down for me), but is not worse * Equipment has been polished and armours seems a bit more useful ** You can ask to refine you battered/rusty/thick/... equipment that is a very nice thing Overall, I think I'm more than happy for the price I paid.

Buggy ...but really awesome.

Just finished the single player story. Took me several weeks. Not sure how many hours but at least 25-30 hours and maybe lots more. But you also have multiplayer and sandbox mode. I was really surprised by all the branching paths in sp and how long it was. Some paths weren't obvious but I really felt like I was making decisions in regards to the story. Mod wouldn't run on day 1 release but as of Jan.5,2015 it runs but is still a bit buggy. I'd get a few ctds...and had one scare that my save was corrupted as every time I loaded I'd move my guy a bit and it would crash. That was near endgame too. I had to lower all my graphics settings (and my computer is only a year old). Some may need to use "large address aware" to prevent crashes so the game will utilize more ram. I wish there was in ingame options to limit parties moving around on the map. That helped a lot with crashes with other mods for me. I loved the unique locations and some of the unique battles. Ship battles were cool although a bit uneven as well as some of the unique battles in general. Some battles and quests (like taking a location a holding it for 30 days in the middle of enemy country) are hard as nails even to a veteran m&b player like myself. The map is the Brytenwalda map but much bigger in scale and forces you to use ships even more. I think this is set 200 or so years after Brytenwalda. I liked the music and some of the village layouts better in Brytenwalda but overall Viking Conquest is a bigger and better experience. especially once they get more patches out (which they will. the talesworld forum is proof of the sincere effort to make this dlc right). To new players try the Brytenwalda mod. If you're a diehard m&b fan try this out for the singleplayer experience alone. It will surprise you. Lots of good ideas from other mods all in one place. I'm glad they put this out although it could've been more polished at release. Definitely recommended!

Better than it was on release

Very flawed and buggy on release, a year and a half later the game is much more polished and very playable. Good add-on to an already great game :)
