"Die Fugger (2)" - once upon in Germany

Usually I do not write reviews, but when this game came out, known as "Die Fugger" or "Die Fugger 2" it was really one of those games, which I repeatedly came back too over years - every once a while - and that this game is on Gog is just awesome. The game itself is not that much difficult if you get a hang of it, but is in opposite a lot of fun to play due a (broad, for that timeframe) range of options in the game itself. And needless to say if you review the screenshots, it aged kinda well. And there is/was even some form of multiplayer (on one computer..). Just as a hint, if you want to play this game, stick to the manual for production requirements/balances - this is indeed needed - other then that, be entertained.

Death and Taxes

Playing this game, it's IMMEDIATELY clear that this is the origin of the Guild series games. It's amazing to see that the core of those games all started here, which is not something I knew about. This game is entirely menu driven, and is relatively good looking. The game is a lot more navigable than most games of this era. One thing that is slightly annoying is the need to look at the mission cards and production ratios in the documentation. Not a GOG problem, it's just an annoyance of this era of gaming. That being said, this game is incredibly tough in my opinion, even on regular difficulty. The computer opponents are ruthless, and you don't have a lot of time to get everything that you want done. You need to make moves efficiently, without going broke. Random events drop every round, bringing good and bad things, so always have some cash on hand ready to go. I think this is a really good game, and while the Guild games are fun, they are also really buggy and not really finished. This is a complete package of the same core mechanics without any of the bloat. If you like Patrician or any game where youre trading goods for profit, I think you will like this. Check it out.
